Introduction

Presentation by Randy Lewis, who began this venture in 1992 with his wife, Debbie.
Current production is about 9000 cases annually - Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. These a BIG wines and perhaps not for every palate. Production is 1/3 white (including a small amount of Sauvignon Blanc) and 2/3 red. Purchase all of the fruit from trusted sources.

Flight 1 (12 Notes)

  • 2008 Lewis Cellars Chardonnay Reserve

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Native yeasts - 21 mths. On the lees in barrel - 75-90 % new barrels.
Green tinted light straw; spice laden vanilla and ripe peach and pear aromas; nice level of acidity surrounds the tree fruit flavors; some oak still on the edge; lasting and pleasing finish.

  • 2008 Lewis Cellars Chardonnay Barcaglia Lane

Slightly darker straw color; soft floral aromas; mellow and spicy apple and pear flavors; acidity pronounced but there is sufficient fruit to handle; easy finish - not that lengthy.

  • 2010 Lewis Cellars Chardonnay Barcaglia Lane

USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

Slightly darker straw - more like the 2008 from this vineyard; deep, full nose with pronounced warm spicy white tree fruit and some tropical fruit on the edge; spicy apple and peach flavors; well balanced and harmonious; acidity seems muffled by the fruit, but it is definitely present; fruit carries the finish.

  • 2007 Lewis Cellars Alec's Blend

    USA, California, Napa Valley

    This is a blend of 70 % Syrah, 20 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 10 % Merlot.
Dark, black ruby with a purple rim; full nose of black fruits; mellow and pleasing entry - nice mouthfeel; black fruit flavors and well balanced; easy finish.

  • 2007 Lewis Cellars Syrah

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Dark black/purple with a full rim; powerful on the nose - blackberry; the fruit coats the palate; some elegance; finishes shorter than Alec's Blend but primarily blackberry; high level of alcohol here. Needs about 4 years to mellow out a bit and hopefully extend the finish.

  • 2008 Lewis Cellars Alec's Blend

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Again very dark; spicy, peppery nose - blackberry fruit; supple on the palate, with ripe blackberry fruit; great balance; lengthy finish - very pleasing.

  • 2008 Lewis Cellars Syrah

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Extremely dark - black/purple; subdued nose, just a hint of black fruit; elegantly styled; round, soft entry but fills the mouth with blackberry fruit; higher alcohol evident but nicely balanced; long pleasing finish where the fruit lingers. This wine will show very well with another 4 or 5 years in the cellar.

  • 2006 Lewis Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Hillstone Vineyard

    USA, California, Napa Valley

100 % new oak. Dark ruby scented nose - currant fruit; on the palate the fruit overrides the acidity and tannins; round and full bodied with black currant fruit; finishes long with the fruit lasting. A bit too powerful for my palate.

  • 2006 Lewis Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve

    USA, California, Napa Valley

    96 % CS and 4% Cabernet Franc - 100 % new oak.
Dark brooding appearance; nose more subdued than the previous wine primarily black currant fruit; soft entry but a big styled wine; tannins remain active but the black currant fruit coats the palate, marrying the two; finish is a bit dry on the edge with the impact of the tannins - round and ripe lasting fruit. Another wine that is too powerful for my palate.

  • 2008 Lewis Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Hillstone Vineyard

    USA, California, Napa Valley

98 % CS and 2 % Petit Verdot ( not sure what such a modest amount of PV does for this wine.)
Dark purple/black; light on the aromas but featuring some dark berry fruit scents; sweet black currant fruit abounds on the entry and coats the palate; nice balance of acidity and tannins - pleasing texture; finishes well, with the fruit extending - some tannin influence on the end.

  • 2008 Lewis Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Another black/purple color; well integrated aromas - spice, currant fruit, even some slight floral on the edge; black currant fruit prevails on the palate, but there is better balance than the previous wine; doesn't seem as powerful; lasting finish - black currant with nice sweetness lingering. Liked this better than the Hillstone bottling, but it is nevertheless a very big wine.
