Introduction

My wife was gone for a few days, so i thought it might be fun to pop some corks and drink the wines over the long weekend. Whites were stored in the fridge, reds on the counter (with a cork), but no gas. Its nice to geek out like this sometimes.

Flight 1 (4 Notes)

  • 2010 Rivers-Marie Chardonnay B. Thieriot Vineyard 93 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast

Delicious wine. Yellow gold in color. The nose has lemon creamsicle. Slightly sweet and refreshing. On the palate, this is creamy. Lemons notes. Nice balance. Drank over two nights with no degradation.

  • 2010 Bedrock Wine Co. Heirloom Compagni Portis 90 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Valley

Silvery gold in color. The nose is awesome. Minerals, floral notes, honeydew and a "fresh" quality. On the palate, this is very smooth and easy to drink. Not as much complexity as the nose (which is a 100 points), but nice. Drank over three nights, it showed oxidized notes on day 2 and was bitter on Day 3. That is neither surprising nor worrisome. At most, it says, this should be enjoyed young where its exuberance can be appreciated. At under $30, this is a fantastic value.

  • 2009 Hobel Wine Works Cabernet Sauvignon Engelhard Vineyard 94 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Pop and poured and followed for three days. The last glass was the best. Ruby/purple in color. The nose has cassis, dark chocolate and some coffee. This took some time to open. Shows tight layering and delicious fruit. Great texture and balance. I can't help wondering what future vintages will be like. It is ageing slowly (I know its still quite young) at this point. Needs time or air.

  • 2007 Pott Wine Cabernet Sauvignon Kaliholmanok Bel Canto 94 Points

USA, California, Napa Valley, Spring Mountain District

Drank over three days. Best glass was the last one. Purple in color. The nose is not explosive, more brooding. Cassis, pencil lead, tobacco and some charred oak. On the palate, this is deep. I was expecting riper fruit and this is not what this wine is about. It is more complex and less in your face. Nice balance. A bit shy, but not elegant or feminine. Really good and worked with food, but needs more time.
