Introduction

The Dallas 2nd Wednesday Group got together Wednesday night to honor the memory of our dear friend that passed away a few years ago, David White. David was a very active member of our group and actively participated in every event held by our group. He particularly loved French wines as well as Suze restaurant as a gathering place so we gathered this year once again to honor his memory by tipping a few glasses and sharing fond memories of our dearly departed friend.

Flight 1 - The Wines of David White (4 Notes)

All of these wines are from the cellar of David White.

  • 2006 Bergström Chardonnay Sigrid 91 Points

    USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley

    WIML91

Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately.

Yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Floral notes on the nose followed by aromas of wet stones, lychee, talc and graham crackers. Flavors of yellow pears, creme and minerals. Medium acidity, medium body. Some thought this was on the down hill side but I disagree. Seems right where it should be for an Oregon Chardonnay and can be drank now or held for five years or so.

This bottle was from the cellar of our dear friend David White.

Flight 3 - White flight (3 Notes)

A few whites as an intermezzo. Oddly, one wine seems to be off theme as is the norm for our group.

Quite the mix of reds.

  • 2000 Domaine Charvin Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Flavors of berries, herbs and a dash of Ricola on the finish. Medium acidity, lighter tannins, medium body. Drink over the short term? Not sure. This wine was not as expressive and of sufficient weight for a 2002 CdP. Seems a bit off so no rating.

  • 1998 Château Pichon-Longueville Baron 91 Points

Drink now and over the next 5+ years with a little time in the decanter to allow some of the green to blow off. Several at the table noted it was way too green when they tried it but by the time I got to it and some serious air had gotten to it the green had blown off.

  • 1989 Clos du Mont-Olivet Châteauneuf-du-Pape

    Tasted non blind.

Many at the table were having orgasms over this wine but by the time it got to me and had been exposed to a fair amount of air it was cratering. Therefore no rating. If drinking this wine I'd pop and pour in a small intimate environment instead. In any event drink over the next few years.
