  • 2006 René Geoffroy Champagne Volupté Brut Premier Cru 91 Points

France, Champagne, Vallée de la Marne, Champagne

Very different nose than the others. Yeasty and bubbly, with a very high-toned, sweet and sharp aspect. Candied citrus, sweettarts? Something like that. Really bright and lively on the nose. Plush on the palate with minerals, steel and lemon flavors. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 4.5/6, Je Ne Sais Quoi - 1/2 = 15.5/20.

  • 2004 Gaston Chiquet Champagne Spécial Club 1er Cru 94 Points

    France, Champagne

For me, this was a step up from the previous bottles. Great nose, more complex than the previous wines, more complete: candied fruit, yeast, spice, sharp, lemon, minerals. Crystalline fruit and sweetness on the palate, cidery, apples, bready, sweet fruit. This is really excellent. Nose - 5.5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je Ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 17/20.

  • NV Vilmart & Cie Champagne Grand Cellier Brut 90 Points

    France, Champagne

Very bready and yeasty. Lemon, shells and some white floral aspects. Very very young on the palate - almost brutal. Steely lime, stones and shells. This needs time. Nose - 4/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je Ne Sais Quoi - 1/2 = 15/20.
