    Colour Clear, ruby, medium intensity, legs
    Nose Developing medium intensity, clean, slight green/pyrazine, spice, cedar, perfurme, slight berry and an almost toffee/caramel oak
    Mouth Medium minus body, tannin, acidty, medium flavour. Bitter over slight red fruit, toungue coating phenolic, medium alcohol. A little too acrid, medium finish

    Nose Medium plus intensity, clean, developing, jam, vanilla, cream, sweet spice, alcohol heat
    Mouth Medium plus tannin, acid, alcohol. Sice and black fruit, the tannins are very dry. Some vanilla as well. Too hot and feels disjointed and engineered

    Colour Clear, purple to ruby, medium plus intensity and pronounced legs
    Nose Medium minus intensity, clean. Developing. Some leather, biscuit and toasty oak. Red fruit and yet more biscuit!
    Mouth Medium plus tannin and alcohol, medium acidity. Clove, nutmeg, spice, leather, very dry and a little hot. Long finish

    Colour Clear, ruby, medium minus intensity, legs
    Nose Medium minus intensity, clear, developing, cream, red fruit, spice
    Mouth Medium minus tannin, medium acid, medium alcohol, chalky and slightly course tannin, slight red and quite muted red fruit. Spice. The body is quite light and the wine a little wet and thin.

    Mouth Medium acid, alcohol, body, flavour intensity, tannin. Dry. Some spice and red berry fruit.

    Colour Purple to Ruby, bright, medium intensity and some minor legs
    Nose Developing, medium plus acidity, clean, perfumed, red fruit, vanilla, cream and spice but also a touch of herbaceousness
    Mouth Medium acid, body, flavour intensity, tannin and medium plus alcohol. Dry. The alcohol lends a slight spice mouth numbing heat on the long finish. Not much fruit

    Colour Purple to ruby, clear, medium minus intensity
    Nose Developing, medium intensity, clean. Vanilla over red fruit, tiny leather, very slight sweet spice, creamy and rich. Very nice nose.
    Mouth Medium plus intensity tannin and alcohol, medium acid, body and medium minus flavour intensity. Dry. Not much going on from a flavour perspective, it’s quite unpleasant and rather dull at the same time – the finish is bitter and long. Weird.

  • 2008 Man O' War Vineyards Merlot Cabernet Franc Malbec

    New Zealand, North Island, Auckland, Waiheke Island

    Colour Purple to Ruby, clear, medium intensity
    Nose Developing, medium intensity, clean. Tea, slight funk, biscuit and toast, cedar and slightly meaty all dominate red fruit.
    Mouth Medium acid, alcohol, body, flavour intensity, tannin. Dry. The tannins are drying on the front of the palate and, other than bitter coffee, there isn’t much going on.

  • 2007 L'Hospitalet de Gazin

    Colour Clear, purple, medium plus intensity and pronounced legs
    Nose Developing, medium intensity and clean. BBQ meat, toast, farmyard funk, dusty, beef extract over spice, mineral – stone – and red fruit
    Mouth Medium acid, alcohol, body, flavour intensity, tannin. Dry. Bitter coffee and clove and nutmeg over black and red fruit, slightly warm but not intrusive alcohol. The long finish carries the fruit which seems to open and grow in the mouth and reveals touches of herbaceousness. Very nice indeed.

    Nose Developing, clean, medium intensity. Very perfumed, spice and savoury vanilla and red cherry and berry fruit. Lovely nose
    Mouth Medium acid, body, flavour intensity, tannin. Dry. Medium plus intensity alcohol. Red fruit, spice, leather and generous alcohol that comes to the fore on the long finish

    Nose Medium minus intensity, developing, clean. Red currant, plum and spice. Slight herbaceous notes and greenness.
    Mouth Medium plus tannin that seems to fade away. Medium acid, alcohol, body, flavour intensity. Dry. Slight hot, toast, red fruit, long finish. Hmm.

    Nose Toasty oak, red berry fruit, developing medium intensity clean yeast extract (marmite) and spiced meat
    Mouth Medium acid, alcohol, body, flavour intensity, tannin. Dry. Slight spice marries with the tannin that last in the mouth and some red fruit that sits in the mid palate.

    Mouth Red fruit, spice, slightly bitter and green. Medium acid, alcohol, body, flavour intensity, tannin. Dry. Long almost candied with hints of chocolate. A tiny bit warm on the finish.

    Mouth Medium acid, alcohol, body, flavour intensity, tannin. Dry. Bit dull and flat, some red fruit, coffee and chocolate. Feels quite engineered.

  • 1995 Frankland Estate Olmo's Reward

    Colour Clear, rim fade from ruby to garnet, serious legs, medium minus intensity
    Nose Fully developed, slight vanilla, slightly porty, kernel, spice and plum
    Mouth Medium minus intensity tannin, medium plus alcohol – a little generous on the long finish. Touches of plum and spice but the wine is a little simple and a little disappointing

bit of a Meh tasting for me...other that the second wine of Ch.Gazin nothing really shone for me.
