Hard to believe we've had 100 of these gatherings since 1997. The theme HAD to be 100 points, or nearly so, with 100+ $$ price tags. I wanted at least a modest variety of locations and ages, but I gotta say I'm highly biased!! In general: I don't do Burgundy or Italy, so I had to go with what I got. The wines were all decanted for 2 hours or more. We had a 2001 Argyle Extended Tirage sparkler open while we were gathering and it remains fantastic-- no specific notes but in the 92-94 pt range.
served with 2 types of pate and some roquefort-- WOW!
served with some cheesecake and stilton options
A crazy good tasting... I'll probably never open 10 bottles like that again!
2001 Château Rieussec 95 Points
France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
Still very young, this wine has all the trimmings: honeyed yellow stone fruit, citrus, pineapple, with floral and spice notes. Great with duck liver mousse and some black truffle shavings. What a start to an amazing afternoon!
