  • 2007 Joh. Jos. Prüm Riesling Kabinett 88 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

    (12/29/2012)

A fine riesling. Nose was inviting with peach, lychee and lanolin. Palate was energetic and nicely composed. Great vivid fruits with cutting minerality on the finish. Great value.

  • 2005 Arcadian Syrah Westerly Vineyard 89 Points

USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Ynez Valley

    (12/29/2012)

A very nice Californian syrah. Rich, dark fruit on the nose with a meaty edge to it. The palate had a rustic character at first with deeper meat and pepper tones at first. With some time, the rusticity seemed to fade with juicy dark fruit taking its place. I don't have much experience with Arcadian, but this is a great value.

Flight 6 - Day 6 (2 Notes)

  • 2010 Puzelat-Bonhomme Pinot Noir Touraine Flawed

    France, Loire Valley, Touraine

    (12/30/2012)

Very vegetal with lots of earth and spice notes. The usually exciting and edgy palate was a bit out of whack this time...seemed very volatile. Peaks and valleys of intense acidity, earth, dark fruit and mushroom. Compared to the other bottles I've had, this seemed a bit flawed.

  • 2007 Olga Raffault Chinon Les Picasses 90 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Chinon

    (12/30/2012)

Thought this was an improvement from the first bottle I tried. A bit more presence this time with great earthy notes, pure and fresh dark fruit with nice floral lift. The palate had great energy and verve, but still had a density to the flavor. Lots of dark fruit and earthy notes made this quite nice!

  • NV Nicolas Maillart Champagne Premier Cru Platine 90 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru

    (12/31/2012)

Chalky aromas with lots of peach and pear notes. The palate had that bright orchard fruit note, subtle yeasty tones. Nice cut and energy as usual.

  • 2011 Clos Roche Blanche Touraine Cuvée Gamay 85 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Touraine

    (12/31/2012)

Insanely green and bitter upon opening...reminded me of some of the green meanies that are occasionally seen with 2004 Burgundies. The palate was more enjoyable with some raspberry, plum and stone. Seemed to be in a truly funky spot.

  • 2010 Clos Roche Blanche Touraine Cuvée Gamay 91 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Touraine

    (12/31/2012)

A wonderful gamay. Great fruit on the nose and palate. Dark and lithe berry and plum tones integrate nicely with some brambly undergrowth tones. Drinking very well.

  • 2010 Byron Pinot Noir 83 Points

USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Barbara County

    (12/31/2012)

Very dark and toasty. Hard to pin this as a pinot as the darkness and weight on the palate seemed to push it into a syrah or even cabernet feel. The palate was sweet and spicy...lots of plums, dark berries and smoke.
