Flight 1 (7 Notes)

  • 2011 Domaine Huet Vouvray Sec Le Haut-Lieu

    France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray

Tart pineapple aromas and flavors. Off dry, not an austere Sec. Medium weight, good mouthfeel, slightly earthy. Good. After having had the 2011s on several occasions now, I'm becoming convinced that the Haut Lieu is the best of the bunch.

  • 2010 Domaine Huet Vouvray Sec Le Haut-Lieu

    France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray

Lighter, tighter and drier than the 2011 with more typical pear fruit rather than pineapple. Very dry. Reverberating acidity and a powerful finish laced with quinine. Classic and outstanding.

  • 2011 Domaine Huet Vouvray Sec Le Mont

    France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray

Some floral aromas in additional to tropical fruit. Round, loose style with low acidity, pineapple like the Haut Lieu. The fruit is not clean and the finish is very earthy and bitter. Very disappointing but consistent with past experience.

  • 2010 Domaine Huet Vouvray Sec Le Mont

    France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray

Pear and honeysuckle. Light but adequate flesh. This is so much purer and focused than the 2011 version with just a hint of terroir overlying the great fruit. Driving back end acidity. Lovely and lots of development ahead.

  • 2011 Domaine Huet Vouvray Sec Clos du Bourg

    France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray

Weird how all 3 of these wines had more pineapple than any other discernible fruit-extremely atypical for Vouvray Sec wines. Dilute. Weird bitter/quinine finish. Forget about this. Clearly the worst of the lot and probably the poorest wine I've had from this great site.

  • 2010 Domaine Huet Vouvray Sec Clos du Bourg

    France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray

Explosive nose of guava and lime. Lanolin richness upfront but a long, much leaner finish with tooth rattling acidity. Tight, much too young, an interesting bit of spice to complement the fruit. This could not be more different than the younger vintage-a great young Clos du Bourg.

  • 1998 Domaine Huet Vouvray Pétillant Brut

France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray Pétillant

Deep yellow. Not very lively to say the least. Toasty nose. Rich, caramel, very oxidized at this point. Bitter finish. Over the hill.

Closing

Tasting these 2 vintages together provided a stark contrast. The 2010s were dynamic, exciting and youthful, whereas the younger vintage borders upon disastrous at this great estate. No contest.
