France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Light colour shows its age. Good nose, red fruits, cherry, open wine. Medium to light on the palate, a touch dry at times but with a good core of soft fruit, subtle and with a good length. A good experience. drink now 91
Once again surprisingly alive and vibrant, fuller wine with a lot of fruit. A touch of dry tannin, mild on the palate and shorting on th efinish. Feels to have gone through a lot of extraction and oak and still feels like it after all this years. good wine still. 90 and we suggest one drinks up.
Another good Talbot of the 80s. The nose is classic, light earth, mushroom, very minty. On the palate it is well balanced, old school pure bordeaux with good length and presence. Granted one needs to like the style of old school bdx but to people who do like us this is simply stunning. 93-94 and drinks wonderfully now.
Another classic old school bordeaux. Balanced and well made. Quite secondary on the nose and a touch less open than the talbot. A touch on the harsh side, dry feel on the palate with firm tannins. Good experience 92 and drinks well now
Full wine with lot of fruit. Earthy notes too on the nose too but quite a bit of fruit for a 30yr old. A few dry touches around the edges, a sign of the vintage we guess. Old style wine, grippy, good extract and showed quite well on the evening. 92-93 and with decent life ahead.
A very young and backward wine at this stage. Very surprising to see it so backward actually especially having tried the 82 and 85. The nose has a few lactic notes nut generally it is restrained. on the palate it has substance , quite full wine wbut it is a touch hard and on the sleepy side. Hopefully some age will help here. 90-91 at the moment and hope for the future.
Magnificent wine. A pure joy to have. Open on the nose, classic pauillac, long complex with secondary notes but also with decent fruit. On the papalte it is singing, vibrant alive and balanced wine with that purity of fruit that we so much cherish. an easy 96 for us and maybe more. WOTN by a long way
The nose is a touch on the muted side, especially following the etheral Pichon Lalande 83. Quite powerfull still, fresh and fleshy wine. It feels like it could well last another 10 years and granted it has a few 83 issues such as sone dryness on the edges still it has a nice balance and presence. Very good wine and a good 94 from us.
