New Haven and Guilford

Once more with gusto. 25 each of Clos St Jacques and Les Am. The 1999s were killer. Rousseau and Roumier ruled but there were many great wines. Drouhin showed nicely across the board.
missing notes from Jadot and Bruno clair
All the 02 Amoureuses were young and all will be quite nice, but probably not outstanding. The Drouhin was number 2 in the flight for me, medium color, more fruit ont he nose and was becoming approachable as I finished it

Dark, deep cherry, approachable. i liked this more than most.

Most elegant of the flight and after two hours was stellar and could give the Roumier a run for its money

Dark in the glass, a little roasted and syrupy on the back end but evened out over time. Probably just too early to read

As with the bonnes mares tasting last year, Roumier was the call act of the night, although in Les Am, the competition is closer.
Number one of the flight, medium dark color, young and slightly roasted on the finish, this was incredibly intense and will resolve into a stellar wine in a few years

Surprisingly open, typical CSJ. Will improve but suffered by being paired with 3 Rousseaus

The three Rousseaus ruled in this flight. The 02 is early, the 01 is balanced and I loved it, the 00 is downright sexy and best to drink tonight. Over time, it will be 02, 01 and 00 I think.
They are al complex, ripe and elegant in a way that sets his wines above everyone else and rousseau is the reference standard for CSJ. the wines are dense, balanced, earthy with a wild mix of dark and red fruits and the finish goes on forever.

Huge wine compared to the 2002 and very nice. number 2 again to Roumier

Big, gorgeous but a funny fizziness on the back end that disappeared when shaken.

very nice, balanced and ready to drink

4th of 5 in the flight, a little light for a 99 but was continuing to improve

Missing 98 Jadot note which was flawed
The three Rousseaus ruled in this flight again . The 99 is early, the 98 is very nice, the 97 is a knockout and best to drink tonight. Over time, it will be 99, 97 and 98.

dark, full, more on the attack and mid palate with shorter finish. Really drinking well right now

deeper, darker than the 1996. very fine.

What a nose! Deep, dark fruits, foresty and perfectly balanced right now
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
very nice, but less full than the 96, more acidic, although it improved in the glass and was creamier and sexier by the last sip

Rousseau knocked it out of the ballpark in 1993 making some of his best wines ever. The was cleaner, bigger, bright and balanced. This has it all and is a baby 93 chambertin

The 93 flight was disappointing to me but loved by others. the Drouhin improved over time and with food but i don't see the fruit overcoming the acid in this wine

Balanced and quite enjoyable but less complex and typical than one would expect as before. Drinking well now.

Big, long and full, but like the other 93s, I don't think there is enough fruit to balance the acidity although it was much better with food

Pine needle and paraffin on the nose, but in the mouth it was rich and creamy on the attack, although slightly astringent on the back end. Drink up

Medium color, elegant on the nose, but completely unexciting in the mouth at first although it improved nicely over time

Easy, approachable, sexy. a great 1990

Elegant, balanced, beautiful and just a terrific wine

Still tight at first, but opened nicely. This is a great vintage and a great showing for Jadot, although still number 3 training Roumier and Drouhin

not up to snuff

a little cloudy, ok, but not great

Like the 88 chambertin, when this shows it is the best drinking of his wines right now and this was a great bottle. I have had a 50/50 hit rate with Rousseau 88s

nice on the attack, light on the finish. started a little musty but grew to be wild and gamey. Fell quite short next to the 61

Balanced, precise, clean and fresh. Not a blockbuster, but a beautiful old burg.

Missing Mugnier, and Drouhin notes
roasted and disappointing

huge disappointment for me, musty and you could see there was something underneath, but not in this bottle

these were served with cheese on night 1
young, dense and intense with great precision. While it will be the better wine in the long run its was not as sexy as the Genevrieres tonight. Was amazing with soft cheeses.

young, lush and sexyn. beat the Perrieres tonight. Was amazing with soft cheeses. i have a soft spot for this wine

Knockout bottle. This is almost as good as white wine gets. Very pure, elegant with an underlying minerality , white flowers and a hit of citrus. Incredible intensity and elegance, multilayered mouthfeel. This is pure and delicious and will last for a long time but drinks amazingly now. Definitely the best Chevalier I have had and tops most Montrachets.
