Medium yellow. Some toasty notes. Medium weight. Firm structure with distinctive lime fruit (not at all typical for Chardonnay). Low pitched finish with some churned butter. Interesting wine.
Medium yellow. Bright, orange peel on the nose. Medium weight but caramel and some richness on the entry. Good, bitter citrus flavors and a tart twist at the end. Certainly not your everyday California Chardonnay.
Medium ruby. Wonderfully complex, soil filled nose. Medium weight. Mulled red fruit and again, dominant earth with moderate acidity. Restrained and very stylish.
Moderate ruby. Forward, very spicy, cinnamon aromatics. The biggest and sappiest of these Pinots with a tad more discernible wood base. Yet, at the same time, higher acidity to keep it from feeling plodding, and a good dose of soil and clay. Understated and classy.
Moderate depth of color. Simple blackberry fruit. Medium weight, rather sharp black fruit and creosote in the mouth. Raspy texture, significant finishing tannins, modest finish. Not ready but I also think that this is not as good at its level as the Tous Ensemble Pinot Noir.
Saturated, purple center. Redolent of violets. Full but excellent spice, blackberry, graphite and flowers in the mouth with great lift and perfume. Elegant, long and much greater depth than the Tous Ensemble. Exciting quality.
Not quite as deep as the Voisins, but also very aromatic. Supple, complex black fruit with a touch of herbs. Not highly structured but sound acidity. This very pretty wine reminded me of Cote Rotie.
Almost opaque center. Highly floral nose. Larger scaled and more obviously tannic than any of the 3 other Syrahs. Backward, although the entry is pretty lush. Chewy back end tannins, overall very masculine wine. Whereas the Hawk's Butte evoked Cote Rotie, this was more Cornas or Hermitage in its expression. Profound and impressive.
