First, thanks to the nice folks at Vintage Select for the invitation. Second, apologies to some of the producers, I ran out of palate before I could get to all of the wines. If I had space for storage, I would have taken a lot of these home.

2010 Ad Vivum Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon 91 Points

Solid nose of black currant, black cherry, and espresso. On the palate, rich full body, blackberry, black cherry, currants, espresso, spicy oak. Finishes with decent balance. Excellent.

2010 Aiken Pinot Noir 91 Points

2009 Aiken Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford 93 Points

Big boy cab nose with black currant, plum, spice, black raspberry and the unmistakable aroma of Rutherford dust. On the palate, rich and bold with black currant, cherry, blackberry, and spice. Long finish with stout tannins. This is one for the long term. Pity the production on this is so small.

2011 Bruliam Pinot Noir Caritas Cuvée 91 Points

Very nice on the nose with bright red cherry, raspberry, cranberry, and hints of spice. On the palate, light bodied with tart cherry, raspberry, spice, and tea. Tart finish with a little bit of grip. Needs another year or two to shed the sharpness. Beautiful stuff.

2011 Bruliam Pinot Noir Gap's Crown Vineyard 95 Points

Of all of the great wines tasted this day, this was the one that stole my heart. Nose of bright red cherry, spice, mushroom, black tea, cranberry, rhubarb. On the palate rich tart cherry, tea, clove, mushroom, cranberry. Long balanced finish with a bit of grip. After drinking this, I want to go to Dan Kosta and Michael Browne and punch them both square in the nose for making their beautiful raw material in to cherry cough syrup.

2011 Bruliam Zinfandel Rocky Ridge Vineyard 91 Points

Rock solid with a nose of black cherry, raspberry, black pepper, and cola. On the palate, balanced and refined with blackberry, raspberry, black cherry, pepper, and nice bramble sensation. Long finish with decent acidity and best of all no detectable heat. Hats off to this winemaker and other wineries should take note, this is how wines can and should be made in Cali. This is a fall release wine, so I was very fortunate to get to taste it.

2009 Coho Merlot Michael Black Vineyard 93 Points

My favorite of the Coho offerings, mostly because it shows what you can do with Merlot if you respect it. Great nose of plum, black cherry, mocha, spice, and herb. On the palate black cherry, mocha, plum, vanilla, spice. Long finish with serious grip. Needs a lot of time, drink 2016 at the earliest.

2011 Meander Sauvignon Blanc Conspire 90 Points

Slightly tropical on the nose with grapefruit, peach, and citrus. Creamy on the palate from sitting on lees with nice flavors of white peach, herbs, and citrus. Crisp finish, more full-bodied than most SBs I fun into. Really enjoyable.

Most people associate Carmenere with simple wines. This is anything but. Big nose of black cherry, plum, mineral, spice, and pepper. On the palate, earthy with black cherry, black plum, black raspberry, and tobacco with lots of earthy spices. Finishes with lots of grip balanced by the acidity. Very complete, but even at five years old, very young. Obvious French oak treatment but not overly done. Superb. Best Carmenere I have ever tasted.

2010 Perry Moore Cabernet Sauvignon William Thomas II 90 Points

Very similar to the WT I, not quite as balanced with tartness, but has nose of red and black fruit along with hints of spice. On the palate red fruits more dominate than black with big whack of oak. Another smooth finish with great balance and grip. If the oak can fully integrate this will be one to watch.

Perhaps the best Cab of the day. Full rich nose of black currant, red currant, sour cherry, mint, spice, leather, vanilla, and espresso. Nose of citrus, lanolin, hints of honeyed pear. On the palate sweet with pears, honey, lemon oil, and just a hint of peach. Finishes with some nice acidity that adds to the package. Very good.

Another surprisingly good Pinotage. Nose of red and black raspberry, smoke, game, and hints of pepper. On the palate, red raspberry, cherry, blackberry, smoked meats, and pepper. A little short on the finish but overall a pleasant package.

Unusual nose, with cherry and black fruits dominated by menthol. On the palate rich with bright cherry, currants, blackberry, and mint. Nice balanced finish. The vineyard is right next to a stand of eucalyptus which probably accounts for the mint and menthol overtones.

On the nose, earthy funk with red and black fruit along with blueberry and mineral. On the palate, blackberry, blueberry, cherry, mineral, earth. Long finish with a ton of grip and great acidity to balance it out. Not quite up to the 09, but a great wine with an attractive price.

My first Lake County cab and it is a beauty. Nose is dominated by black fruits with hints of spice. On the palate, surprising balance with tart cherry, rich black currant, and spice. Long balanced finish. Drinking well right now and should continue to improve. Great stuff.
