Tasting. Slightly reductive to start, this had been open ~30 minutes before poured. Lots of apple and pear aromas and flavors. All still quite fresh. Good concentration, good acidity helping as well. Moderate length.

Tasting. From 6L, this was one of two Schrader 2011s served today, both from 6L. Impossible to mistake this for anything but CA Cabernet, this shows intense plum, cherry liqueur, oak spice and dark chocolate aromas. Robust and large scaled, but with wonderful balance for its size.

Tasting. From 6L, this was one of two Schrader 2011s served today, both from 6L. Impossible to mistake this for anything but CA Cabernet, this was very similar to the T6 (to me), perhaps with slightly better textures and energy. Both clearly very well made in their style.

Tasting. Nutty and yeasty start with lots of ripe apple aromas and some citrus hints. I often like Heidsieck best when it is quite young, like this 2000 today, while the fruit and toasty elements are in roughly equal proportion.

Tasting. Popped, decanted and poured just before its 2008 counterpart. Fresh black fruit aromas with great spice, well integrated new oak support. Blackberry and boysenberry with lots of espresso elements and great spice again on palate. Wonderful balance and textures. Perhaps not as powerful as the 2008, but definitely more pleasurable today. Better than I recall from when tried two years ago.

Tasting. tried just after its 2007 counterpart, both popped, decanted and poured. Quite a contrast. Very dense, black fruit with lots of spice on both nose and palate. not particularly forthcoming today but lots of concentration and still balanced. Needs plenty of cellar time.

Tasting. Plenty of ripe fruit aromas with a charming floral touch and some cassis hints. Blackberry, blueberry and black cherry with some licorice and exotic spice hints. Very elegant for a wine of of its size and heft, very well balanced.

1996 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Grands-Echezeaux 94 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru
(9/19/2013)
Tasting. I haven't had this wine in a long time, and I really like how it has evolved. Sensational Asian five spice aromas with floral notes. Lots of charming red and black cherry as well. Nose has just faint hints of maturity, while the fruit is a little more mature and evolved on the palate. Still showing lots of very elegant structure, with wonderful balance.

Tasting. From magnum. Much more accessible and charming than other times I've tried this wine in the past few years. Black cherry, black pepper, allspice come through on nose and palate. Very well balanced and elegant. No surprise, the last sip was the best.

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
(9/19/2013)
Tasting. Fresh black fruit aromas, clearly showing lots of concentration. Same all black fruit flavors. Probably needs more time, but while I certainly found it enjoyable, I also found it slightly one-dimensional.

1982 Château Léoville Las Cases 95 Points
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
(9/19/2013)
Tasting. Popped and poured. This has been a slightly inconsistent wine, and this is certainly one of the great bottles. Sensational spice with fresh black fruit and cigarbox hints with dark chocolate and espresso. Dense, meaty and powerful. If served blind, I would have thought it younger.

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
(9/19/2013)
Tasting. Starts with classic Leroy spice profile with black cherry and blackberry aromas. Similar fruit flavors with slightly less spice. Big tannins, especially for a Leroy, very "1995" in that regard.
