Tasted Saturday, November 16, 2013 by Burgundy Al with 645 views
Todd Hess from H2Vino came to Knightsbridge with the full Groffier 2011 lineup. Knightsbridge decided to open most of the top 2008s as well, and then a few of us showed up with a few nice older bottles.
2011 Domaine Robert Groffier Bourgogne 85 Points
France, Burgundy, Bourgogne
Tasting. Bright red cherry aromas and flavors. Somewhat tart. Subtle spice. Very classic fruit, slightly simple but there is a faint bitter or vegetal hint on the very end. Best young.

2011 Domaine Robert Groffier Gevrey-Chambertin Les Seuvrées 87 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
Tasting. All red fruit with good balance and textures now. Leaner styled than I would typically expect from Gevrey, but very harmonious for a good young drinking 2011.

2011 Domaine Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Hauts-Doix 89 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Tasting. Strawberry and red cherry aromas and flavors, very well textured with interesting anise and thyme. An intriguing spice mixture gives a sense of whole cluster (?). Also leaner styled with lots of energy and minerality. Needs cellar time.

2011 Domaine Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses 92 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Tasting. I switched up my sequence on this tasting, preferring to taste Amoureuses after its neighbor, Haut Doix, then pairing neighboring vineyards from across Chambolle, Sentiers and Bonnes Mares.
Red cherry with elegant spice on nose and palate with lots of fresh and vibrant fruit. Good length. Also needs time. Much like the Haut Doix, just a little more of everything and slightly more harmony.

2011 Domaine Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers 88 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Tasting. Black and red cherry flavors and aromas. slightly more dense and firm than the Haut Doix, but not quite as elegant or balanced.

2011 Domaine Robert Groffier Bonnes Mares 93 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
Tasting. Black and red cherry aromas with lots of spice, slightly meaty and slightly jammy. Similar on palate, just a little more red fruit driven, very accessible for a young Bonnes Mares. Very good length, balance and textures with lots of mineral coming through at the end. My favorite in the Groffier 2011 lineup.

2011 Domaine Robert Groffier Chambertin-Clos de Bèze 91 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
Tasting. Black cherry aromas and flavors. Subtle power with good tannins, soft but still Gevrey in character, particularly on the firm finish.
