Nice depth and complexity, raspberry, cherry, layered fruit, leather, spices, long finish. Tannins are round, firmish but not aggressive. I like where this is going. 93+pts.

  • 2008 Ca' Rugate Amarone della Valpolicella 89 Points

I thought this has a very pretty nose with ripe dark berry fruits and floral notes along with spice, the palate was young and at least currently doesn't match the nose in finesse, firm tannins, medium finish. I do think this may flesh out and improve moderately with some time 89(+)pts.

  • 2007 Emidio Pepe Trebbiano d'Abruzzo

    Italy, Abruzzi, Trebbiano d'Abruzzo

Medium dark gold color. Tasting pour. Well this was certainly a curiosity. I'm not sure I would say I liked it, but it was definitely different. The nose offers nuts, pine nuts, earth, citrus. The palate strikes me as oxidative, nail polish, bitter nuts, citrus, melon, and a sense of alcohol on the finish. Hmmm. I would be curious to know if this is typical. Based on this tasting, 80pts.

  • 2006 Pian Delle Vigne (Antinori) Brunello di Montalcino 89 Points

Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino

Tasting pour x 2. This oozed sweaty saddle leather, stinky barnyard and dank earth, all of which followed to a somewhat vegetal, barnyard palate, with grippy tannins. Tried this several times thinking it had to get better, but it stayed very one dimensional. 89(?)
