Food is always excellent at Nick's but the problem is the location, it's very small and it's probably the noisiest restaurant in North America. The three single gals bitching about guys at the bar at the top of their voice didn't help the situation. We changed tables.

I had planned on bring a little nicer bottle of bubbles but this was the last bottle still in the refrigerator. That's ok, it'll do. First, always a nice QPR at less than $14. Nose is sweet but well balanced on the palate. Fine bubbles and medium finish. I wonder if this had a little age on it if it might be even better. Problem is they never stick around long enough.

2010 Sea Smoke Chardonnay
USA, California, Central Coast, Sta. Rita Hills
It was dark in the restaurant but even so, this was noticeable dark gold hue. This is in the rombauer style which means chris loved it. Too bad it's twice the price of rombauer. There's a significant weight to the wine and a mouth coating glycerin feel. Ripe red apple, lemon, and pear fruit flavors wrapped with vanilla and a buttery blast. Salinity across the tongue through to the finish.

2008 Dierberg Pinot Noir Santa Maria Valley
USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Maria Valley
This is just on the edge of where I like Pinot, fruit forward style but very enjoyable. Sweet cherry, cola, and spice all in abundance. Medium plus finish. Reminds me of a Lafond from Santa Rita Hills.
