France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny
Darker translucent red; cherry, raspberry, cranberry, a little one-dimensional, spice; nice tartness, longer, young, underlying minerality, good weight though leaner profile; some sulfur made this seem younger.
Highly extracted, thin purple rim; a bit rustic, black olive, some new oak, blueberry, blackberry, smoke; dense and deep, good bit of tannin, purple fruit, doesn't destem; called Cornas...duh I just had this wine earlier this month.
Bright red ruby; some mint, hard red fruit, strawberry, cherry, floral, dusty minerality evident on nose; full and rich, tart and sour cherry; Cotes du Beaune...Volnay sappy...extremely well made and slightly firm with the loads of mineral, ended up nailing it.
Dull garnet, lighter extraction, brown hues; soy, raw meat, sweet spice, tar, rose, dried cherry; menthol, anise, sandalwood, deep, Robitussin; great balance and very good.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Dull ruby, see through; floral, dark sour cherry, ripe, earth, fruit forward still; good and rich, tails off just a bit; very impressive nose but the palate is not as good; give this bottle a few more years.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru
Crimson showing some age; aged on the nose but still sweet candied fruit, leather and cherry; richness on mid-palate, the richest Pinot so far, ripest too, some alcohol on finish; initially called this as Morey St. Denis then got talked in to calling a well made New World Pinot with some age- alcohol was strong; not sure of this wine's ability to age.
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Dark red core with garnet rim; radish, smoke, garrigue, minty, sour plum, some game, licorice; Grenachey, tart, slightly tannic, powerful and still lots of life, balanced to age gracefully for some time; many called Pegau; very noble CdP.
Pale yellow; kiwi, grass, lime, grapefruit, full nose; fresh and sweet, round and full on the palate as well, friendly acid, finishes with chives and herbs; tasty.
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Dull dark red, semi-translucent; sweet, confected fruit, vanilla, cherry buried underneath oak and sweetness, slight medicinal note in the background; sharp and bitter on the palate; not good.
Tawny core with yellowish rim; nutty, vanilla, sour mash, more subtle than most; strong and persistent on the palate, nutty, vanilla, almost caramel; good.
