Introduction

What a fitting occasion and given it wasn't planned and a bit last minute made it even more fitting for a celebration of crossing the 3000 Tasting notes mark. The beautiful Leadbury provided the food and the setting and some of the wines and we too from our cellar the 1983 Pichon Lalande and the 1990 Talbot. Beautiful evening.

Flight 1 (5 Notes)

  • 2000 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut 93 Points

    France, Champagne

Great as always, rich, ripe, toasty, round champagne. This is now going at full speed and probably at its peak. Looking at our notes over the last few years the trend is clear. Time to drink. 92-3

  • 2006 Dauvissat-Camus Chablis 1er Cru La Forest 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru

Not sure if we would have gone for Chablis if this was blind tasted. Good colour shows its age. On the nose if feels mineral but their is a sweet core there too, like lemon tart, light caramel. No oak feel. Has an exotic feel too. On the palate it is firm, and the minerality shines through. Good wine but did not amaze us. 90-91

  • 1983 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 93 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Double decanted for like 2 hours. Needs about 30 minutes to be honest. Also mind the sediment here.
The Colour shows its age with decent bricking. On the nose it is an ode to classical aged Bordeaux. Leather, cedar, cigar box, light spice and light earth. Open, long and delicate nose, pure and elegant. On the palate it carries on but the only negative here is that the fruit is showing a dry edge and felt a touch linear at times. Still full of life and the firm tannin this is great wine from an the unsung hero of 1983. Drink now

  • 1990 Château Talbot 94 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Double decanted for 2 hours and needs like an hour. The nose is open from pop but need times to relax on the palate so be patient with this. Be aware of sediment too
Still quite dark in colour with a dense core. On the nose is as classic as it gets, leather, cedar, light white pepper, earthy tones. What is beautiful about this wine (other than the price :) ) is the fact that its blessed with the lush, solid fruit core of the 1990 vintage. Firm and lively too with firm tannin this has an easy 10 years of life and should go the same way of the beautiful 82,86 & 85.

  • 1990 Château Suduiraut 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

Beautiful sauternes. Haven't come across it in 3 years and nice to see it age gracefully. Dark, dense caramel in colour just so glossy and beautiful. The nose, reveals it self from the start with ripe apricots, light honey, caramel and botrytis notes. On the palate it is full and lush with good acidity to balance the sweetness. Lacks a bit of vitality though at times feels heavy and one dimensional. Still a beautiful Sauternes. 92-93 and drink at will but has the stuffing to go a loooong way.

Closing

Very interesting to see our evolution of TNs in the last 5-6 years since we begun noting down in CT. How we started liking the modernist movement only to come to value the classics and hate too much oak.. a bit of pop to classical music feel.

The constants from start to finish have been the beautiful Gevrey wines from Serafin, Vega Sicilia and good old classical Bordeaux.

To the next 3000..
