Flight 1 - Hanging Out at Domaine (2 Notes)

Thanks to Chris for opening up the Bolly.

  • 2011 Henri Jouan Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Echezeaux Vieilles Vignes 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin

A bit of an oddball. Started off with those eerie green flavors I've gotten on other 2011 Jouans, but that (thankfully) went away after some air. After that it took on a very pretty red fruited profile. Lots of fresh red berries, and some florals made this airy and elegant.

  • 1990 Bollinger Champagne R.D. Extra Brut 93 Points

    France, Champagne

I was blown away by how much this smelled like mushrooms. Earthy and musky, I loved the rustic and somewhat feral nose. There was also a good deal of graham cracker, cream and vanilla. Medium bead, and the acidity was pretty good still.

Flight 2 - Keplinger Tasting (4 Notes)

Only stuck around the a couple tastes...

  • 2011 Keplinger Caldera 82 Points

USA, California, Sierra Foothills, El Dorado County

Very juicy with a touch of earthiness from the mourvedre. Must have been missing something though, because it's very simplistic and hollow. While not complex, this got points from me because the alcohol wasn't noticeable and it tasted pretty good.

  • 2011 Château Boswell Jacquelynn Cuvée Blanc 88 Points

    USA, California, Sonoma County

Liked this a touch more than when I last tried it in July. Still had the exotic tropical fruits, but they seemed a touch more toned down and integrated.

  • 2011 Keplinger Sumo 76 Points

USA, California, Sierra Foothills, Amador County

Very young and a total brute. I liked this more than the 2007 since there was at least more going on than just the alcohol's heat. Still, not my style of wine at all...amped up flavors with zero elegance.

  • 2007 Keplinger Sumo 72 Points

USA, California, Sierra Foothills, Amador County

Tons of alcohol on the nose and the palate was inky dark fruits and more alcohol. Definitely not my style of wine.
