Chez JC & FKG, Hollywood, FL
Tasted Wednesday, March 12, 2014 by vinole with 506 views
JC & FKG arranged for an offline at their home to host VinT and wife who were visiting S FL from Toronto for the first time. A lovely couple that added to the fine mix of folks gathered to enjoy FKG's culinary delights and a bit of wine to boot.
1983 Château Brane-Cantenac 92 Points
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
Some bricking at the rim, but the fruit was still lively with cherry and currant flavors. Medium + acidity and medium body with cedar notes and nice elegance and complexity on the finish.

1987 Dunn Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 94 Points
USA, California, Napa Valley
Bright cherry and currant fruit with medium + body and acidity. Very balanced with a long, complex finish. WOTN for me and most others. This bottle showed better than one I brought to an offline a year ago.

2000 Château Rauzan-Gassies 91 Points
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
Classic old school Bordeaux, medium body and acidity, with only 12.5% alcohol and some cedar notes on the finish. Less floral on the nose than I would have expected from a Margaux wine. After initial taste, found that some decanting was needed, which helped after about 45 mins, though the tannins still had some bite and I think this wine will still benefit from further aging.

2000 Clos du Marquis 91 Points
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
Still young and assertive, but drank well after an hour of decanting. Blackberry and currant fruit, with medium body and acidity. I would wait on these a little longer.

2003 Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Crau
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Had this at the end of the evening and thinking this would have been better shortly after opening. Got some heat initially, which was less noticeable on the finish.

2009 Domaine Grand Veneur Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Origines
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
I had this after it had been open awhile and it came across as overripe and raisiny and didn't really care for it. Though I understand that the leftovers showed much better the next evening.

2004 Piaggia (Vannucci) Carmignano Riserva Piaggia 90 Points
Italy, Tuscany, Carmignano
On initial taste, found that this needed some decanting. An hour and a half later it still was wound pretty tight and I would suggest further aging. Was surprised as I had an 01 at a younger age than this and it drank very well.

2003 Nickel & Nickel Cabernet Sauvignon John C. Sullenger Vineyard 93 Points
USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville
Nice acidity for a Napa cab, and good overall balance. Not too fruit forward or ripe that made for a lovely wine.

2001 Beringer Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve 94 Points
USA, California, Napa Valley
I have always been partial to the 01 vintage for Napa, and this wine was certainly no exception. Very well balanced and really drinking well now. Not too ripe or forward with just the right amount of acidity and tannin with some elegance and complexity from its aging. Better than an 01 Mondavi Reserve I had recently.
