I got a lot of the exotic Savagnin notes here with some banana, white florals, and bright citrus notes. Palate really fleshed out with air growing the citrus and orange notes to towering levels. Acidity was lip-puckering, and the combined packaged was thrilling.
One of the best Jura blancs I've come across to date. Isaac described the salinity well, and what got me was the combination of the cool saline profile with some wonderfully mellow and deep floral notes. Touches of nuts, beeswax, and lemon were there too. The palate was an absolute freak show. Wonderfully smokey, nutty, and zippy citrus elements were woven together very nicely, but it had this 2nd layer of something akin to orange marmalade that was completely exotic, unexpected, and dazzling. What a wine!
Tasted blindly, I would have pegged this for a world class sherry. Had that combination of waxy citrus, saline, and butterscotchy notes on the nose with razor-sharp acidity and a real salty edge to it. Deep and dense orange, peach, and lemon gave this real gravitas. I've had Bornard's in the past, but never one that approached this bottle.
Far more accessible and open that I had imagined. Nice citrus with nutty notes, that were a bit on the mute side. With some air, some peach and pear flavors emerged and the nuttiness grew. I'd hope that with more air and/or bottle aging, the nuttiness will continue to expand.
Wasn't as excited by this as I thought I would be. Had all the oxidative notes on the nose - nuts, butterscotch, lemon oil - but the palate didn't have the ripping acidity that I wanted to give its richness some balance.
Another killer bottle of the 2010 Marnes Bleues. Had a lot of minerality and a vivid stoney character. The fruit was super cool and edgy with some fresh pear, lemon, and lime. Insanely deep and layered, there's lots going on here.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, La Romanée Grand Cru
It was shocking how good this wine was. The fruit was dense and complex with a great combination of plum, cranberries, cherries, earth, and mushrooms. This had gravitas too; a lingering finish, and depth that continued to expand with time.
This was opened for a while at dinner and while it was charming, I didn't think it reached the levels I was expecting. Had a touch of almond on the nose with lots of cranberry and some spritz. The palate had more spritz to it, so we thought some air would help, but it never seem to budge. Oh well.
Showing a lot of life and then some. Beautiful aromas of sous bois, light cherries, and some floral notes. Just an airy, delightful pinot that was showing incredibly nicely. A humble wine, in the spotlight.
Big fan of Gahier's wines and this was no disappointment. Nice cranberry notes, soft floral notes and lots of minerals. Blazing acidity on the finish too.
Thanks to Amy for sharing this with our table. Nice saline profile with sweet lemons, mushroom, and seashells. Great depth on the palate that seemed to go on and on. I've had pretty good luck with 2000 Raveneau's and this was no exception.
A very good, young Auslese that has dense lychee, peach, apricot, and pear notes. The palate was gorgeous with deep tropical fruits, and a very nice acidic backbone to it all. Should age very well.
