France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
Great aromatics - earth, mineral, vanilla, stemmy notes and cherry. Long and has mineral drive in the mouth. Hitting a decent point for drinking now even, but time will of course benefit it.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de Tart Grand Cru
Stemmy, graphite, violets and spice. Clean red fruit drives the palate, the fruit doesn't have much depth to it but there is no hurry for it to develop. Needs serious time.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Blood, rhubarb, blackcurrant aromas. Rich fruit but it becomes a little bitter on the back. Tannins do give it good structure but the bitterness is a concern.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Nutty and orange peel with some hay. Rich fruit pervades across the palate. Have some length and structure to it. A little bit odd with the nose seeming a little old but I didn't mind it.
Orange peel, marzipan, toast, honey and lime. Texture and balance are both very good. Rounding out on the palate but drinking really really well. I expected to not really like this prior to tasting but I thought it was great.
Sulphur, floral, orange peel and smoke. Medium bodied with bright fruit and plenty of cutting acidity. Interesting and will be better if the sulphur is given a chance to blow off.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Matchstick, toast, grapefruit and lemon aromas. Ripe palate, with plenty of intensity and drive. Fruit doesn't seem especially deep to me but this may change with age.
Mineral, smoke and lemon. Well structured, especially compared to the '12 AC Chablis next to it. Fruit is of obvious higher quality. Maybe lacks a little persistence.
France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Mâcon-Milly-Lamartine
Honey, cirtus and oats on the nose. Richly fruit driven with good length. Definitely gives off an impression of lushness but it's not over the top for my taste.
France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Mâcon-Milly-Lamartine
Graphite and lime aromas. Acidity is clean and refreshing. I preferred the fruit depth and push in the Lafon Clos du Four next to it but this still had something to offer.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges
Ash and musk with light florals. Palate has more of that ash character and the structure isn't really up to the fruit so it feels a bit out of balance to me.
Very aromatic with floral and truffle notes. Plenty of fruit but the excellent tannin structure is prominent right now. Very good length. Desperately needs a few years to show its best.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
From a second bottle that had been open 4 hours. Florals have started to emerge but there is still plenty of meat and earthy spices. Crackles with power and intent. On the verge of showing its explosive power but it just needs more time even with the lengthy opening time.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Bretty, dusty, dark florals and blackcurrant. Brett shows on the palate too with a metallic twinge. I don't mind a little brett but this was too much for me.
Bright cherry, cinnamon spice and earth. Good balance between medium weight fruit and some excellent structure holding things together. Great length. Give it plenty of time!
2008 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Bonnes Mares 94 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
Cherry, meaty, raspberry, spice. Long and ultra bright but has some firmness to the structure behind it. Brilliant potential.
