One of these surprises when a no-name Bordeaux (often Pomerol) from a great vintage takes you by surprise. Tasted blind, next to some first and second growths, this was a winner, with forest floor, irish moss, nice density and surprising richness and creaminess with a hint of cherry left. Awesome wine left.

Out of Magnum. Plums, spicy home made ketchup, lots of tomato concentrate, very lactic, some honey with an intense acidity, quite pleasant considering the challenge that Margaux was having at the time

Tasted blind and It's easy to understand that I was VERY surprised when the wine was revealed. But I have to say, this wine has something to it, so the very high rating is justified in my view. Loads of grilled bell peppers, like the 'pimiento del padron' nice length, surprising balance and elegance

Caramel, chocolate, hay, hint of cassis, great balance and power with a nice texture but slightly elevated alcohol levels. Nice!

Nearly all of us non-wine writes are influenced by a wine's pedigree and reputation, so if I had this non-blind, I'm pretty sure that I would have rated it lower. That's the reason we try to drink nearly everything blind and if possible double blind as the case tonight.
This stunned everyone!!
Toasted bread, banana, chocolate, leather, superbly elegant, espresso, red bell peppers, really long finish. A claret at it's perfect maturity.

Orange, banana, very elegant nose, lots of tannin reserves left, this is just too young, so lay it in the cellar for a little while longer!

As rich, opulent and massive as great sauternes gets. And as awesome as ever. Apricot, dried apricot, almonds, botrytis, peach and a hint of mango. Super rich and long finish. Awesome!
