Opened the thelostverse as a nonblind starter.
Tasted double blind.
Notes of watermelon, strawberry and minerals. The palate follows the bouquet, adding floral nuances and a bit of spice in the finish.

Deeper color than the first wine in the flight. Red berry fruit with clay and spice notes. Has a little bit of spice/pepper in the finish. I guessed Spanish grenache.

Good pink color. Perfumed floral notes give way to watermelon and berries with an underlying Sauv Blanc-like grassy note. Flavors of white peach, strawberry and melon with a spice note lingering on the finish.

Tasted double blind.
Dark color with notes of jammy raspberry, red fruit and black raspberry. Nice fruit on the palate, with vanilla lingering on the finish. Good but nondescript; I had no guess.

Light color. Opens with a subtle meaty note followed by perfumed cherry fruit. Bright fruit on the palate with a long finish. Balanced and elegant. I guessed Pinot and should have known this was a Burg.

Aromas of cherry, clay and red fruit. Balanced, with cherry, clay, earth and spice flavors on the palate. Guessed Sonoma Pinot.

Very herbal- eucalyptus and other green herb qualities, along with green pepper and dark fruit. Red and dark fruit on the palate. Medium tannins with vanilla and spice tones on the finish with more eucalyptus. Guessed Cab Franc.

Tasted double blind.
Dark color with aromas of beef bouillon cube and raisins. Sour dark fruit on the palate with more bouillon qualities. This is vile stuff. I was fairly certain it was our Vinculo.

Faded garnet color with some bricking. Aromas of herbs, tobacco and iodine- I love the bouquet on this. Nicely balanced and fully-integrated. Perhaps just slightly drying out- but only slightly. Flavors of iodine, currants and iron with red fruit on the finish, which is on the short side of medium. I thought we had a Bordeaux here, from a weaker vintage.

Notes of macerated strawberry, florals and dark fruit. Black raspberry and floral qualities on the palate. Finishes very well, as did the last bottle, with lingering dark fruit and herbal qualities. Double blind, Mrs. TLV liked it this time around, however Domino still did not...good...the last four bottles are mine.

Aromas of vanilla, boysenberry, currants and dark fruit; ripe. Dark fruit and oak spice on the palate with firm, obtrusive tannins and vanilla- loads of oak here. No guess; no one thought Cab Franc.

Raisin and candied red fruit aromas lead to a palate that is port-like and rather sour. I couldn't take more than one sip.

Tasted double blind.
The bouquet has a hint of bouillon, along with dark fruit and florals. Red and dark fruit on the palate as well but with a bouillon quality there as well. Guessed over-the-hill Cab.

Aromas of tobacco and currants. Flavors of dark fruit, currants and herbs. Has a sour quality to the fruit on the finish. Guessed Bordeaux.

Hot; port-like; black fruit and floral notes eventually emerge from beneath the alcohol. Black fruit and oak dominates the palate. Hot and alcoholic. Perhaps there's enough fruit to absorb the oak and alcohol but I wouldn't bet on it. No guess as to what this was.

Notes of vanilla and red fruit. Monolithic; vanilla and red fruit with firm tannins and not much else. No guess.
As it turns out this had just been shipped and arrived the day before the tasting...a case for travel shock? Or perhaps just in a dumb phase?

TLV smoked a couple of pork shoulders and served up all of the sides & trimmings. What a great way to end the evening.
Opened by Sue with dinner. Dusty currant and subtle herb notes on the nose and palate. Tannins are light but somewhat chalky, and the wine dries out a bit on the finish.
