Bin 75
Tasted Saturday, June 21, 2014 by Rezy13 with 329 views
Nothing like glass after glass of some of Australia's best served with an assortment of grilled meats on the Green Egg.
A monumental tasting where 2 bottles of Grange are poured along with a great 707. Only a fraction of what Penfolds makes and no whites makes this kind of a tease, but I'm definitely grateful to be exposed to this. Good stuff.
2011 Penfolds Bin 8
Australia, South Australia
Sweet blueberry, blackberry, tar, nice entry, some heat, intense, powerful, rougher though not tannic; good.

2012 Penfolds Cabernet Sauvignon Bin 9
Australia, South Australia
Plush nose, cassis, smoke; almost jammy, dark fruit on the palate, intense, denser mouthfeel, some heat; tasty.

2012 Penfolds Shiraz Bin 128
Australia, South Australia, Limestone Coast, Coonawarra
An obvious difference as this is cooler climate Shiraz, more perfumed, tar, violets, hints at vegetal; chocolate on the palate, nice tannic wrap, black pepper, menthol, lots of power but the finish cuts off just a bit; good value.

2011 Penfolds Cabernet Sauvignon Bin 407
Australia, South Australia
Perfumed cassis, sweet and sexy, vanilla, primary, green tobacco; green pepper, red currant, cassis, smooth tannin, good intensity, alcohol is in check; not the deepest wine but tasty.

2010 Penfolds Cabernet Sauvignon Bin 707
Australia, South Australia
Only a drop but what I could tell was this wine commands your attention, much more deep structured and powerful than the 407 for sure; high quality Cabernet that could drink well for 20+ years.

2007 Penfolds Grange
Australia, South Australia
Lots of vanilla, acetaldehyde, fainter fruit; intense on the palate, softer tannin, some heat, chocolate, blackberry, perfumed, grainy tannin; didn't scream ultra noble wine but I didn't hate drinking it; should prove to be an earlier drinking Grange but it may need a few years to shed this seemingly awkward phase it's in now.

2008 Penfolds Grange
Australia, South Australia
The inkiest wine thus far, also surprised by the amount of sediment in this fairly young bottle; ok now we're talking, sweet cassis, intense, glycerin, vanilla, maduro cigar, blackberry jam, bourbon, smoke; deep, structured, concrete dust, prominent tannin, green pepper, eucalyptus; a monster of a wine that commands your attention, decent now but should cruise past your kids' graduations...from med school.
