Introduction

Another great dinner and tasting at Modesto's best restaurant..….we were treated like Kings again with our own chef's tasting menu created just for the 5 of us…and seated down in the cellar….Chef Michael and staff once again outdid themselves and showed us a first class time….the food and presentations were amazing…and the wines no slouch either! Super fun night guys….thanks!!

Flight 1 - Starters and dinner (7 Notes)

  • 2004 Dom Pérignon Champagne 93 Points

    France, Champagne

Wow…this is way more funk and yeastiness than the 02. Reminds me of the 99…..super lifted bubbles with a sharp citrus attack….rich sea salted caramel, smoky flint, lemons, peach, ginger and grapefruit…..tons of mineral funk, nice creamy yeast, almond foam. Tasty Dom!

  • 2007 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

Decanted for a couple hours…started out with wonderful ripe and creamy peach, green apple fruit…laser beam citrus, sea minerality….later into the night, it plumped up even more, and started showing some buttery notes, not ox.…but still great chalky salty minerals, lemon/lime lift, great tasty Chablis!

  • 2007 Olivier Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet

Very bright citrus, mellow yellow fruits, crushed stones, florals….little sweet strawberry lipgloss thing going on….somewhat refreshing…pretty nice little village wine, just a little too sweet imo.

  • 2007 Aubert Chardonnay Lauren Estate Vineyard 93 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast

Big and rich Cali chard here…but well balanced with plenty of acidity and minerality. Butterscotch, grilled pineapples, lemon honey butter, ginger cookie spice, smoked vanilla oak barrel…..crushed rocks, with a good dose of lemon acidity….tasty with a long life ahead.

  • 2007 Domaine Bertheau (Pierre et François) Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses 96 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

LOVED this! Decanted for a couple hours….gorgeous floral perfume, dried orange/roses, spice nose. Really lite and transparent, rust color….somewhat of a delicate, feminine wine….yet solid structure that just kept giving and giving all night. Smooth as silk, with nice sour skin tartness….cherries, raspberries, rhubarb…cinnamon stick spice, dusty earth….and again those wonderful florals! My WOTN!

  • 2009 Domaine Latour-Giraud Pommard 1er Cru La Refène 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru

Very soft for a young Pommard…..really nice cherry, raspberry fruit….bright floral spice, strawberry patch earth….a little stinky feet sulfur though that never really blew off. A little time might do wonders here.

  • 1991 Ridge Monte Bello 95 Points

    USA, California, Santa Cruz Mountains

The legend…and it delivered! SO young looking, black as night…..rich and creamy layered liqueur berry fruit(blackberry, plum, cherry) creme de cassis, warm chocolate, shaved pencil, olive, menthol tobacco leaf……dusty old cedar/cellar polished tannin…yet solid structure. Age has smoothed out this beauty…showing a little nuttiness and leather…but it is really so youthful still……has many many more years to go. Super wine!

Flight 2 - With bocce ball and cigars (1 Note)

Needed a "Port" for the cigars, salumi and cheeses….so thought this would do! ;-)

  • 2001 Greenock Creek Shiraz Alices 93 Points

Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

Very smooth and Port-like but not too sweet. Rich and ripe blue and black fruits….liqueured berry/currants, anise, white pepper spice, mint…..plenty of acidity to hold up the sweet fruit….dusty floral spices, little aged leather and nuttiness……..went really well with cheeses and salumi.
