2012 Winter Wine Dinner: Number in () is number of favorite votes by guests. Number in [] is my ranking from 1(favorite) to 4. All wines were outstanding and this was very much splitting hairs.
2006 Two Hands Angels Share (5)[4]
2008 Carlisle Papa’s Block Syrah (3)[2]
2006 Rhys Syrah (2)[1]
2004 Shafer Relentless (0)[3]
Quick Notes:
All of these were run through a Vinturi and left to sit in glasses about an hour before service.
The Rhys was really outstanding and to be honest I expected to have it place 3rd in that lineup as I love the Carlisle and Shafer, but it was indeed my favorite. Well made and drinking beautifully.
I’ve tasted the Carlisle and Shafer again day 2 and 3 as there were leftovers and these continue to improve.. just stunning wines in my opinion.

2006 Paradigm Cabernet (4)[1]
2006 Rivers Marie Cabernet (4)[2]
2008 Stefania Cabernet – Harvest Moon Vineyard (2)[3]
2006 Karl Lawrence Cabernet (0)[4]
Quick Notes:
These were all run through a Vinturi and into decanters for a 4 hour decant.
When votes were taken several people wanted to vote more than one their favorite and on any given night this list could look totally different as the wines were just wonderful. This was my first Stefania and it more than held its own. I expected our guests to pick the RM as their favorite and it tied for 1st. It was a nice surprise to have Paradigm right there with it as in my opinion this is one of the most well made, least talked about cabernets in Napa (and it was outstanding and my 1st place wine).
I tasted the Karl Lawrence on day 2 and it was just as good as day 1.

2006 Outpost Zinfandel (4) [1]
2003 Scherrer ‘Old & Mature Vines’ Zinfandel (3) [3]
2005 Turley Ueberroth Vineyard Zinfandel (2) [4]
2009 Carlisle Papera Ranch Zinfandel (1) [2]
Quick Notes:
The bottles were popped and left to breath for about 3-4 hours before service. I was again pleasantly surprised by the Outpost. My last bottle was a white, hot, mess. This was everything that Outpost is capable of, just beautiful Howell Mountain fruit.
The Carlisle even after 5 hours was still improving and I was able to save a little to try on day 2. Wow!!! It is really good stuff. I’d sit on this for a few years if you have any.
