Introduction

Approximately 18 people, many with years of Burgundy experience were on hand to drink and compare the wines. A very nice evening with interesting results.

Flight 1 (4 Notes)

Flight 2 (4 Notes)

  • 2009 Domaine Ponsot Clos de la Roche Vieilles Vignes 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru

This showed poorly given its pedigree. Finished in 9th out of 12 wines. Fruity, forward, cherry, pomegranate. A bit forward. Group didn't care for it as much as others. I liked it, but there were others that I liked more.

  • 2009 Geantet-Pansiot Charmes-Chambertin 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru

finished tied for last out of 12 wines. Disappointing finish for this wine. I Found it had ample fruit, not any secondary notes, but this was young. slightly short finish

  • 2009 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Musigny Cuvée Vieilles Vignes 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Musigny Grand Cru

Finished in 5th place out of 12. Considering its price it didn't show as well compared to less expensive wines. I got cherry ludens as well as some herbs on initial palate. a bit riper it seems. showing the hot vintage of 2009. Very fine tannins. It didn't show well today. Who is to say in 10 years.

  • 2009 Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

finished in 4th place out of 12 wines. again a bit of the cherry ludens. Wondering if this if from hot vintage. Quite complex palate. each time I sniff I get a different element. This is primary, but showing well. I liked this. This was my 3rd favorite of group.

Flight 3 (4 Notes)

  • 2009 Faiveley Corton-Clos des Cortons Faiveley 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru

6th place out of 12 wines. The fullest wine of the group. intense palate. Needs a lot of time - was my note. I think this can be something special in 10 years.

  • 2009 Domaine Dujac Bonnes Mares 95 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru

My winner and the groups winner of the 2009 Blind line up. Quite simply. Superb. Sooo complex. too many things going on to think about because it was so enjoyable. The fruit, earth, tannins and acid are in excellent balance.

  • 2009 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru Caillerets 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru

2nd place for the group out of 12, as well as for me. This followed the Dujac and was a bit spicier and a bit more fruitier but still was incredibly complex and showed very well, given the competition. A winner for me.

  • 2009 Joseph Drouhin Chambertin-Clos de Bèze 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru

finished in 4th place out of 12 wines. A Good showing. A nice amalgam of cherry, earth, sous bois, a touch of ludens as well. full, but elegant. silky tannins. Not in my top 34, but I wrote I liked it.
