Introduction

Beaujolais Nouveau 2014

Flight 1 (3 Notes)

  • 2012 Stonier Chardonnay 91 Points

Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Mornington Peninsula

Pop and poured. Consumed over 2 hours.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, lemon-yellow colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of lightly toasted buttery oak, stony + saline minerality. With more air, sea-salt/brine/seafood aromas. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol, medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of lightly toasted oak, butter-cream, stony + saline minerality, and citrus lemon-lime. Medium+ finish. Minerality gained a bit more intensity with more air. Just the right touch of oak, great balance and nice minerality.
Very good quality. Reminiscent of a good premier cru Chablis. The minerality could still develop slightly more over the next 2 years, and will hold well for at least another 2-3. Can drink and enjoy now too.

  • 2014 Georges Dubœuf Beaujolais Nouveau 87 Points

    France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Beaujolais Nouveau

Appearance is clear, pale intensity, purple colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of sweet bubblegum/candy, Tokyo banana, very slight stemminess. Youthful.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol, low/hardly perceptible tannins, light body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of sweet red cherries, raspberries, bubblegum/candy. Short finish.
Wine to quaff. Maybe it's just me, but the more I quaff it, I get a sickly sweet medicinal feeling.

  • 2006 Château Doisy-Daëne 90 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Barsac

    Pop and poured.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, gold colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of orange marmalade, honey, and interestingly slight kerosene. Developing.
On the palate, sweet, high acidity piercing through the sweetness, medium+ alcohol, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of marmalade, honey, kerosene, kumquats, bitter orange peel. Long finish.
Good quality. Can drink now, and will improve with further ageing over the next 5+ years.
