Great effort, poured from a Magnum, this had it all, some bready body and some nutty complexity and good mousse as well very good freshness. I think this is in its prime drinking window. good value too! go get it.
Great wine, had energy and body and some maturity - great with our lobster in vanilla infused cream sauce. A lot of the white non sparklers poured this evening paled in comparison.
Great blend of grapes where the whole is larger than the parts, and still, as someone else noted, you can distinguish the parts (including the chardonnay). Has ripe fruit and great freshness. lovely effort
vey discreet nose, almost not there, flat palate, thinnish mouthfeel, but then on the back end there is some great freshness and zip which saves this very timid wine from being thrown into a sauce. Elegant and perhaps to discreet to stand up to any food, whatsoever. a mystery.

Finally a philippe chavy 2009 that showcases similar greatness as I had come to know from previous vintages. And ironically, the last of the 2009 philippe chavy. Elegant and pure expression. A favorite with all the guests.
I mean, this is not bad. by any means. But I usually love pol roger all offerings and last night, among a bunch of champagnes, this did not stand up to competition as well as I felt it should have. A little to energetic mousse and sharp freshness. Maybe with some additional time this will mature into something more rounded.
Near perfect chardonnay. Has complexity on the nose. Body that is not buttered up with too much oak, nor stirred up from leesy vinification methods but purely from good fruit material, freshness and zip. Wine of the night and that says a lot given the line up we had!

same verdict. I have come to greatly appreciate these cool expressions of grenache dominated wines (Grenache noir 65%, Mourvèdre 15%, Syrah 15%, Cinsault, Clairette et divers 5%.) It does not showcase complexity or bold fruit or anything else in a very manifest manner, but the freshness, the clean fruit, the elegance and the perfect balance makes me happy. Great food wine. In the upper echelons.
Yes it does not have the structure and density of fruit that a truly first class wine has. but the nose and the cool climate expression of this saline, yet meaty and berry driven syrah is outstanding in my humble opinion.
As far as I can remember, this was just as good as last year's sample... But it was New Year's Eve and a lot of wine to go through and I did not take formal notes..
