Overall the winner was mature Initiale, second came rich and deep Champagne of Andre Clouet and third was the most expensive bottle in the tasting - Selosse V.O.
Light yellow. Fruity nose, brioche, toast. Salty palate, seemed rich in the beginning, but it wasn't comparing it to the bottles that followed. Accidity seemed medium, some dust and mushrooms on the palate. It was nice, but didn't stand out - discreet style of Champagne in my book.
Fatter, sweeter than Chetillons 2005 that preceded it. Good, light accidic bite, soft flowery nuance. Some heaviness to it, and seemed to be noticeably sweeter than les Chetillons.
Wow, after two bottles from Mesnil this Cramant really showed what different terroirs were all about. Much more expressive and intense! Fresh, creamy vanilla note, creme brulee, lovely grapefruit bitterness on the finish, more pronounced citrus cut throughtout all the palate. Powerful, serious, loved it.
Citrus in the taste with lime finish. Brioche and minerality is there as well as very high accidity. This didn't live up to my expectations comparing it to the other bubblies in the tasting. Slightly oxidative style.
Disgorged in 2006. Golden hues, very small amount of bubbles. Creamy, very mild hazelnut and zephyr as well as baked apple, hyacinth, rye bread. Long and balanced, like a white Burgundy. With time it starts to show aromas of mushroom and dried apple, may be even some curry. Very vinuous. Outstanding.
Disgorged 24.07.2012. Flowery nose that opens up with time. Rich, multifaced palate of apple, honey, almond, jerez, citrus - all very elegant. There's also some cocoa and chocolate. Oxidative style and at times it seemed that alcohol bite can be felt on the palate. The very mature Initiale was better than this V.O.
Flowers and honey on the nose. Deep, rich taste, pleasant texture. Reminds me of a dessert wine in its richness. There's some red apple. It is a one-piece wine, solid, if I can say so.
Intense, creamy nose of apples and hard candy. Didn't show anything special and was underwhelmed by all the other excellent bottles in the tasting. It was also too young I believe.
