Interesting nose of some beeswax, honey and stones. A hint of sweetness and sour apples/citrus on the palate. Very crisp acidity and a refreshing finish.
Some oak spice/sandalwood on the nose with plenty of red fruits; this leans in a brighter direction. On the palate, dark cherries and blackberries and good acidity. A fair amount of tannin, which I can only describe as sandy, but everything seems to work well together.
I was told this is a 50/50 Cab/Merlot blend. Somewhat reserved, but spice/earth on the nose and something that I think of as iron-filled stones. Lighter acidity on the palate with blackberries and tar and medium+ body. Fair amount of tannin, which ends on a slightly bitter note.
Lots of spice and some nice earth on the nose. A hint of medicinal herbs as well. Good dark fruit on the palate with soft acidity and a rather significant amount of tannin and a hint of bitterness on the finish, but nevertheless it all works together rather well.
At first, somewhat reserved on the nose. Then very dark fruited with leather and tar. Good acidity on the palate with more leathery notes. Pretty and soft tannin on the finish. Rather elegant at this stage. Both my wife and I enjoyed this, which i can't say for all the wines at the tasting.
I think it worked really well together, but there is also some sentimentality here as it was a 97 Les Forts de Latour that really got me into wine. I enjoyed this, and there was loads of spice and red fruit, together with a hint of pruniness and forest floor. Nice acidity and a beautifully structured finish. The pricetag now makes me a little more reticent...
Great spice on the nose with earth, clove, and great fruit. Good acidity, and on the palate there is blackberry and crushed rock. Beautiful soft tannin on the finish. This was such a pleasure to contemplate that I think I stopped paying attention to writing down my notes.
This was just spectacular. Wonderful complexity on the nose with tar, spice, mocha, cassis, blackberries, menthol. Just everything going on. Great acidity on the palate, and very chewy tannin on the finish, which is very long and intense. I think I drink fewer and fewer wines like this these days, but what a great example.
Drank this after the 2006 Pape Clement, and I think it suffered by comparison. I think if I drank this earlier, it would have been utterly captivating. Great nose with spice, loads of red fruit, but lacking the complexity of the Pape Clement. Definitely a modern style. Much softer and not nearly as chewy on the finish as the Pape Clement. Still seemed a bit young.
