1997 Dunn Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 93 Points
USA, California, Napa Valley
Dark cloudy core with paler bricking rim; sweet tobacco, red currant, licorice, aged, softened, green pepper, Bordeaux-like, a bit of glycerin says New World from the nose; dusty, rich mouthfeel, classic Bordeaux styles CA; very easy to drink, beautiful wine.

2000 Château du Cèdre Cahors Le Cèdre 93 Points
France, Southwest France, Cahors
Dense core with paler garnet rim; warmer temp, cedar, black and red currant, mint, leather in a good way, sweet baking spice, sweet dark and red fruit, great nose, very complex; rich, fuller mouthfeel, great integration of sweet fruit cedar and leather, dry tannin in back but not unpleasant; the best French Malbec I've ever had.

2002 Chanson Père & Fils Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches 93 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru
See through dull crimson, pale rim; sweet nose, aged, sweet orange and sour cherry, sweet oak, almost reminiscent of an old CdP (actually fooled one of our best tasters for CdP); soft sexy mouthfeel, aged, still some grip, sour cherry, tart orange and cherry, mineral dustiness on finish; very solid.

2004 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape 92 Points
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Darker dull garnet core, some clarity, lighter rim; meaty raspberry and cherry, solid structure but aged and elegant, integrated fig, medium cellaring; fuller palate, elegant tannins, raspberry, fig, long sweet finish; was only one on CdP; very good.

2009 Pian Delle Vigne (Antinori) Brunello di Montalcino 92 Points
Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
See through crimson with rusty rim; dried cherry, leather, plum skin, orange oil, luxurious quality on nose; medium plus texture, silky, dried and some fresh red fruit, some leather and plum on the finish, restrained ripeness; called 2009 BdM; very good; a really good showing as I am normally not a fan of their BdM or the 2009 vintage in general.

2011 Tenuta dell'Ornellaia Le Serre Nuove 92 Points
Italy, Tuscany, Bolgheri
Opaque core with bright reddish violet rim; high toned new oak, dark fruit, black currant, blackberry, briar, green pepper; sweet juicy fruit on the palate, nice fuller body, softened (by oak) tannin which come across fairly silky; prodigious and young, wait a few more years; very good.

1998 Domaine Charvin Châteauneuf-du-Pape 92 Points
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Very light dull crimson, aged pale rim with orange hues; classic old school CdP, called Pegau off of first scent, cranberry, sour cherry, red radish, vegetal, tertiary; strong bitter Grenache on the palate, tart fruit, balanced by the vegetal and spicy notes, Brett was in check; well stored, called 2001 Pegau, one of the better balanced '98s; very good but seemed much more austere, on a different day with different accompanying wines I possibly could have given this a 93.

2009 Tenuta Guado al Tasso (Antinori) Bolgheri Superiore 92 Points
Italy, Tuscany, Bolgheri, Bolgheri Superiore
Dense core with thinner garnet rim; tart black currant as well as some red, green pepper, tilled earth, some oak, larger and powerful; palate similar to nose, pencil lead, structured, Italian; went to Brunello hesitantly but looking at the note this is just like the 2010 which was also brilliant; 92+.

2007 Castelgiocondo (Marchesi de' Frescobaldi) Lamaione Toscana IGT 88 Points
Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT
Dark dense core, chocolate at edge with thin dull garnet rim; coconut and vanilla are almost overpowering, a very modern Rioja?, very dark fruit, pine, ripe, menthol, dense, dark chocolate; dark and dense on the palate, similar to nose, slight bitterness in tannin, fat, very low acid, higher alcohol; for all of the negatives you still have to show some respect to the texture (which may have been manipulated but not fake) though I was not a fan.

2011 Antinori Tignanello 91 Points
Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT
Third bottle is the charm; reddish garnet, some clarity, crimson rim; aromatic, rose, sweet exotic spice, dusty cherry, raspberry, very intense; smoother texture, silky red cherry, slight green pepper and pine on finish with some youthful tannic grip.
