Thanks to Don Cornutt for organizing a small dinner at Lusca with Roy Hersh, our honored visitor. Good food, good wine, and great company made for a terrific evening. My notes are fairly cursory, but I hope provide at least some value.
2013 Domaine de la Pépière Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine sur lie Les Gras Moutons 91 Points
France, Loire Valley, Pays Nantais, Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine sur lie
Nice roundness of fruit, minerals, and a little salinity, all well-supported by acidity, it isn't a wine to contemplate but rather one to simply relax and enjoy.

1998 Alzinger Riesling Smaragd Loibenberg 92 Points
Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau
Rich, and a little honeyed, with nice minerality, it is in a very good place right now but not in danger of significant decline.

2001 M. Chapoutier Ermitage l'Ermite 89 Points
France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
Not a bad syrah, but as is so common with Chapoutier, it's generic and not very expressive of place, and the tannin gets pretty grainy and harsh with air.

1994 Hanzell Chardonnay 92 Points
USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Valley
Really nice, fresh fruit and not at all tropical with a solid acidic core, it is drinking great but has lots of life left.

2013 Clos Roche Blanche Pineau d'Aunis Touraine Rosé 93 Points
France, Loire Valley, Touraine
Grapefruit, rocks, black pepper, great acidity, and an addictive chemical that makes ya crave it fortnightly, smartass! Lord, this is great stuff.

2002 St. Innocent Pinot Noir Freedom Hill Vineyard Flawed
USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
Totally reduced, with aromas of decomposing cabbage reminiscent of the Salinas valley in late May and plenty of other unpleasant sulfur byproducts. It shows some fresh, pure fruit on the palate lurking behind the reduction, which makes it more tragic.

2001 Domaine Dujac Clos de la Roche 95 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
Stunning. Layers of fruit, a little earthiness and spice, fine tannin and acidity that frames and focuses the complex and shifting flavors, it's a joy to experience that can't be given justice by mere words, or at least by mine.

Very fresh and pure, particularly for Raffault, hard to stop drinking.

A terrific balance of sweetness, fruit and acidity.
