Introduction

It's took some time to accumulate enough 1990 Bordeaux bottles to start a series of tasting events of 1990 Bordeaux "25 years after"

  • 1990 Château Figeac 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

    double decanting for sediments removal 2 hours prior to drinking
    light red colour with brownish rim
    wonderful tertiary leather-earthy aroma of a slightly oxidised wine
    soft tannins, good acidity level, medium bodied, complex, fine flavours, lingering finish with very long nose….

  • 1990 Château Gruaud Larose 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

    double decanting for sediments removal 2 hours prior to drinking
    light red colour with brownish rim
    delicate tertiary aromas of leather & fungi
    medium bodied, lean, soft integrated tannins, good acidity level, nice harmony, light oak-vanilla, spicy hints, enjoyable more on the nose

  • 1990 Château Lagrange (St. Julien) 91 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

    double decanting for sediments removal 2 hours prior to drinking
    leaking cork under the capsule only, no drops out of the capsule
    light red-brown colour
    surprisingly no oxidation signes on the nose & palate, soft tertiary aromas of earthy-leather, medium bodied, soft tannins, good acidity level, lacks complexity, still enjoyable on the palate on its own, pleasant lingering finish.

  • 1990 Château Léoville Barton 93 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

    double decanting for sediments removal 2 hours prior to drinking
    lively red-ruby colour, with almost no age signs
    classic Pauillac tertiary leathery aromas with oak-vanilla notes on the nose & palate, med-full bodied, firm tannins, good acidity level, well balance and excellent harmony, still holds fruitiness, present oak-vanilla, solid, mainstream, subtle spicy & veggie flavours, long enjoyable finish.

  • 1990 Château L'Eglise-Clinet 94 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

    double decanting for sediments removal 2 hours prior to drinking
    solid dark red colour with amber rim
    intense heavy earth & tertiary aroma
    full bodied, soft integrated tannins, excellent acidity level & harmony, fine complexity, fine oak-vanilla with bitter fruity-chocolate flavours, solid and qualitative, long enduring finish of an excellent wine.

  • 1990 Château Canon-la-Gaffelière 94 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

    double decanting for sediments removal 2 hours prior to drinking
    dark red-brown colour
    developed solid nose of matured fruity-woody aromas
    full bodied, (surprisingly) firm tannins, excellent acidity, powerful, complex, soft oak-vanilla flavours with impressing youthfulness, rich, very good complexity, long enjoyable finish.
    Can beautifully age few more years.

Closing

TheTraklin's private room is a very convenient location, with good food.
The wines were great: no wine was flawed; one was on the verge of being oxidised
Some surprised me in their quality, mainly for good.
Within 2-3 months we'll have the 2nd round
