Lemon, floral, ripe pear on the nose. Good mouthfeel, has some richness to it but also nice texture. The ripeness started to work against it as it warmed up in the glass though, so best on the colder side of things.
White pepper, musk, floral and grapefruit aromas. Bright on the palate, has tension and cleansing acidity. Good length and nice to drink, though a little more complexity would lift it a notch.
Lovely nose with floral musk and rose, pear, spice. Sweet fruit character works well with the saline and mineral line that cuts through. Full but with finesse. Improved a notch since the last time I tried this a year ago and should improve further.
Nice aromatics - floral, lemon, light peach and pear. A streak of richness on the palate, with good intensity. Feels rather new world in style, but it is young and should improve.
Essence of Gewurz. Turkish delight/rose petals, lychee, honey and spice. The openness on the palate gives it a fair bit of weight but the acid is good and carries it well. A really enjoyable style to drink.
Honey, ginger, orange peel and spice. Really excellent texture and structure on the palate. The fruit is powerful but the structure keeps up easily. Doesn't quite have the same brightness as the last bottle, so maybe it is closing up a bit for now. Will still continue to hold my other bottle.
Smoky bacon and charcoal, with raspberry and strong truffle aromas. Medium length with some fruit sweetness hinted at. This bottle is a little bit more bretty than the last, but I still found good enjoyment from it.
Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Adelaide Hills
Prune, blackberry and strawberries. The fruit is distinctly sweet, but there is decent length and a little spice perks up the interest of the palate. Okay.
Blind. Stalk, raspberry, very earthy and a light perfume to it. Plenty of spice and earth on the palate as well. Decent structure pairs with medium fruit weight. Thought it might be village Burgundy but it wasn't super surprising to see what it was.
Blind. Chocolate, earth, blackcurrant, cherry and tar. The palate is settled, with the tannins still providing a backbone but not standing aside from the other components. Not in urgent need to drink this, but it was very good now and it felt like it was in a good place.
Blind. Strong bretty notes, plus chocolate, herb and earth. The palate has quite a bit of fruit intensity which does mask the brett a bit. A big wine with plenty of punch, but the balance is off tonight.
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Plum, blackberry, raising and licorice. Bold on the palate, with power that is still somewhat coiled. Good texture and tannic structure. I have a bottle of this and will try to save it for 4-5 years.
Blind. Cloves from the brett, chocolate, earth with leather and meat. Palate is savoury but has brightness from the fruit. Still in a good place for drinking now.
Apple, pear and pepper on the nose. Quite dry on the palate, though it does have some roundness on the edges. Good length, but overall just a touch boring.
Peach, orange, musk and pineapple. Rich but finishing clean and has some brightness to the fruit. Good flavour and power. Not quite up to the complexity of a previous bottle in quality, but still very good.
Orange, slate, pear and honey on the nose. The fruit is starting to drop away on the palate, so we were lucky that it was opened now and it was still drinking fairly well. Medium length, without the depth of a top tier wine though.
Musk, floral, mango and pineapple aromas. Really quite opulent on the palate, with clinging sweetness but also acidity that balances it out nicely. A touch more acid would really give it a spark but it is lovely all the same.
Blind. Orange peel, pear and coconut. Mild palate, the acid and sweetness are both there but moderate. Plenty of drinkability but it is time to consume. A nice surprise when revealed.
Chocolate, caramel, coffee, marmite and ash. Like really bitter dark chocolate with a touch of sourness on the palate. Interesting to try, but a little was enough.
Pear, apple, orange and chalk. Good acid, nicely clean with a lick of sweetness. Don't understand the hype even at the fair price, but it is just nice at best for me.
