An incredible vertical tasting of one of my favorite Italian producers. Invited by Dalla Terra this was truly a treat.
The vintages played out similarly to what I expected:
2010, 2006, 2001, and 1982 were all brilliant
2008 and 1997 were better than expected
2007 really showed some ripeness, not as awkwardly as the 2003 but it will make old bones faster than critics suggest
2004 and 1996 were not really the stars I would have expected them to be, but I am splitting hairs.

Wine of the day (almost the trip) was the 1996 Dolcetto. Seeing the location in the vineyards this is special Dolcetto. Talking to many other Piedmont producers they didn't expect Dolcetto to go much farther than 10 years max. A really cool wine experience.

Closing

An awesome day! Really wanted to taste a lot of German and Austrian, but the Marchesi di Gresy tasting took up much of the afternoon but was more than worth it. I had so much fun that I pled to Alois Lageder to let me come back the next day.
