Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • 2005 Weingut Keller Hubacker Riesling Großes Gewächs 89 Points

    Germany, Rheinhessen

Nose: A perfurmed nose with aromas of very ripe exotic fruit, a bit of petrol and (maybe) a hint of botrytis. Like Dirk said it, this wine smells more like a ripe Auslese or a great Austrian Smaragd from Wachau.
Palate: Dry, but with quite some sweetness of the fruit, full bodied, creamy, ripe and luscious fruit. Lacks a bit of acidity & complexity. For my personal overall impression & taste this wine is quite nice but to ripe & fat. Maybe this will get better with 5-10 more years age but I´m not really sure.

  • 2006 Weingut Keller Hubacker Riesling Großes Gewächs 93 Points

    Germany, Rheinhessen

Nose: Much more withdrawn than the 2006, orange peel, citrus, a hint of plastic and (strange) dripping waft from the glass.
Palate: What a bless to have such a strong acid driven wine after the 2005. Good tension, very elegant. Nice drive on the mid-palate and great finish.

Flight 2 (2 Notes)

  • 2007 Weingut Keller Hubacker Riesling Großes Gewächs 92 Points

    Germany, Rheinhessen

Nose: Clean, medium intense, developing nose with ripe yellow fruits, lots of lime stone.
Palate: Dry, with well integrated, medium+ acidity. From tasting profile a mixture of 2006 and 2008. I like the combination of mineral notes and ripe fruit in this wine. Will stay on this level for several years and will develop a bit.

  • 2008 Weingut Keller Hubacker Riesling Großes Gewächs 95 Points

    Germany, Rheinhessen

Nose: A great mix between yellow stone fruit, lime, lemon peel, mineral flavours and a hint of herbal aromas. Very elegant & cool nose. Opens up beautifully with some air in the glass.
Palate: The most complete wine on the palate in this tasting. Lovely mineral core, very good tension & power on the mid-palate although super elegant. Long & powerful finish. Will get better with some time in the cellar.

Flight 3 (1 Note)

  • 2009 Weingut Keller Hubacker Riesling Großes Gewächs 90 Points

    Germany, Rheinhessen

Nose: Clean, perfumed, developing nose with ripe yellow fruits, honey notes and a mineral component under the fruit.
Palate: 2009 is the elegant sister of the 2005 vintage. It has all characteristics of 2005 but more mineral notes, a bit leaner and more precise body. Not the longest finish.

As the fruit is still very upfront, I think the 2009 still needs some more time in the cellar to really show what its all about.

Flight 4 (2 Notes)

  • 2010 Weingut Keller Hubacker Riesling Großes Gewächs 93 Points

    Germany, Rheinhessen

Nose: A very subtle nose which only delivers some aromas of lemon & orange zest, white flowers and some herbal notes.
Palate: Bone dry with a vintage specific high acidity which is perfectly integrated already. High intensity, good tension & focus on the mid-palate. Approachable at the moment, but too young.

  • 2011 Weingut Keller Hubacker Riesling Großes Gewächs 90 Points

    Germany, Rheinhessen

Nose: Very open, fruit driven nose with aromas of ripe yellow stone fruit, apricote and some honey. Not very complex and way too fruity for my taste.
Palate: The acid is not very high here, depending (again) on the vintage. It lacks the elegance, tension and mid-palate weight of the cooler vintages 2010 or 2013. Klaus Peter Keller still made a good wine out of his material, but this is not my favorite style of Riesling. I´m not sure if this will develope in the next years.

Flight 5 (2 Notes)

  • 2012 Weingut Keller Hubacker Riesling Großes Gewächs 94 Points

    Germany, Rheinhessen

Maybe the wine with the most potential. Still very fruit driven on the nose but you can divine the mineral power under the surface. Great acid structure & tension on the palate. Let it sleep in the cellar for another 5-8 years and this will blow your mind.

  • 2013 Weingut Keller Hubacker Riesling Großes Gewächs 93 Points

    Germany, Rheinhessen

The latest child of the Hubacker family is still very youthful. A mix of cold smoke, fresh sliced white peach, pear, herbal aromas and peat wafts from the glass. High acidity on the palate which needs to integrate a bit over the next years. Very high potential here. Give it time. At this moment I prefer the 2012 a bit more.
