Flight 1 (7 Notes)

  • 2012 Château Ducasse (Jacques Perromat) Graves Blanc

    France, Bordeaux, Graves

Full yellow. Lively orange aromatics. Nice round, rich entry balanced by snappy mineral finish. A bargain.

Light ruby. Light to medium weight, lightly woody. Green olive, gently sweet fruit, moderate tannin. Fairly supple, enjoyable now.

  • 2010 Château Redon

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion

Medium center, lighter edge. Fragrant herbal nose. Elegant weight and feel with flavors of coffee and wood spice. More tannic than the Ducasse but still quite approachable now. Excellent value.

  • 2010 Château Cap de Faugeres Mouleyre

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux

Moderate ruby. Spicy oak nose. Woody base, lush entry with ground coffee, round, polished tannins. Very modern style, slightly drying finish due to all of the oak.

  • 2010 Château de Pressac

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

Even ruby color. Green tones. Medium weight, quite obvious oak. Boysenberry fruit, powerful with penetrating acids, gritty finish from wood tannins.

  • 2010 Château La Tour Figeac

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

Deep ruby. Striking blueberry aromatics. Some well woven oak, good fruit but attractive herbs and flowers in the mouth. Chocolatey richness leavened by a smoky pungency. Long and elegant with pretty gripping tannins. Serious stuff which I really liked for its sense of complexity and potential. This deserves another decade to allow its full development. It does not seem unreasonable to pay ~$50 for this level of quality.

  • 2007 Château Dauphiné-Rondillon

    France, Bordeaux, Entre-Deux-Mers, Loupiac

Golden with an orange tint. High toned perfume of spice, flowers, and mandarin orange. Medium viscosity, fairly sweet citrus and apricot, not terribly complex or long and a bit short on acidity.
