At the Winery -- Santa Barbara
Tasted Sunday, April 12, 2015 by jonahfactor with 251 views
This is one of our newfound wineries offering unusual blends and a winemaking style that hits all the right buttons with us. All of their offerings -- even their whites -- require decanting in their earlier years to open them up. And they continue to unfold in the glass. A combination of finicky vineyard management and brilliant winemaking. These notes are from the winery's Spring pickup party. Note: All wines were decanted prior to tasting.
2012 Sanguis Floral Study No. 2

Golden with a rich, dripping necklace. A nutty nose with tight fruit (apples, peaches and pears) and a creamy finish. I'm thinking 2017-2021.

Might be the best rose' I've ever tasted. A light, zesty red all dressed up as a rose. What a mouthful! Dripping with roses and soft cranberries. Wet pebbles and minerals throughout. A finish that seems to go on forever. Wow.

2012 Sanguis Luminous Flux

Lana Turner in a glass. Mysterious and brooding, but never over the top. Opaque red with crazy legs gripping the glass. Soaring aromatics that hit all of the high notes. Spice on the palate, along with ripe cranberries, rosemary, lavender and a dash of wet leaves. Very long and satisfying finish. Drink 2016-2025.

2012 Sanguis Bossman
USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Maria Valley
Deep blood red with voluminous legs. A bouquet that erupts from the glass with garrigue, black raspberry, herbs de provence and black pepper that carry over into a fresh, satisfying finish, followed by a dollop of black licorice. The best of an already excellent tasting. Drink 2018-2025.
