A small pour at a tasting. Ok, this is a nice champagne, but I was maybe a little too positive about it last time. I had been drinking really low end champagne (as my note indicated) and I even admitted that it was lacking in complexity. I think I was just grateful to finally drink a Champagne with some class. Nonetheless, this is a solid effort, and it made a great starter wine for a champagne tasting. It seems to be a rich and toasty style. I echo my previous sentiment that I would like to revisit this in 1 or 2 years.
A small pour at a tasting. As nice as this was, previous "vintages" have been significantly better, as my own Cellartracker notes bear out. I agree with a fellow friend/taster who commented, these used to be something special at $50. Now, they're merely "ok" at that price point. That about sums it up.
A small pour at a tasting. This performed above my expectation. Nice toasty funky nose. Rich and full of energy. A little iodine in the background. It seemed to have a fair amount of red fruit. Significantly better than the NV Henri Goutorbe Rose Grand cru served right before it.
A small pour at a tasting. There is a lot to like about this Rose, but it is marred by a bitter, almost acrid finish. Everyone at the table felt the same. There were some nice qualities on the nose and palate, but my memory is fogged by that bitter finish.
A small pour at a tasting. This was universally panned among the 12 of us. Nothing wrong with it, just nothing to get excited about. Light, slightly acidic, pear, yeast. Meh. This was blown away by the 2004 Roederer L'Ermitae served right before it. I will hold my remaining bottle for a couple years and pray.
I had a small pour at a tasting. There is a lot of complexity here. Good mousse mouthfeel. Apple, hazelnut and some lemon. This is drinking quite well. I'll hold my remaining bottle for a couple years.
A small pour at a tasting. After removing the wire, the bottle opened itself with a massive POP, but no spillage. The bead on this was quite small and sparse. Initially, there was not much going on at all with this wine - very shy. It did open up after about an hour but it never came anywhere close to my expectation for this wine. A nice nuanced toasty nose, light red fruit.
