Introduction

My first meal at Ma Cuisine each time I visit Burgundy is always a highlight. Tonight's was no exception, shared with old and new friends.

Flight 1 (6 Notes)

  • 2009 Domaine Roulot Meursault 1er Cru Charmes 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

Ripe Apple on both nose and palate with some sweet baking spice notes. Lots of mineral driven textures I really enjoy; however this is fatter than I'd prefer, plus slightly short on acidity and energy at the finale.

  • 2008 Coche-Dury Meursault Les Chevalières 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault

Coche-Dury 2008 Chevaliers. 2nd of tonight's 6 bottles. Ripe apple and peach aromas and flavors. Extremely dense, almost. Hey with intense sense of dry extract. Palate starts fat but ends textured and exciting. Maturity level corresponding to its age, I think it is approaching its peak and will drink nicely to 2020+.

  • 2010 Coche-Dury Meursault Les Rougeots

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault

I certainly like the potential here, but think it wasn't able to show its best popped and poured tonight at Ma Cuisine. Restrained aromas to start, with modest ripe Apple and Meyer lemon emerging after 30+ minutes in glass. Green apple, lemon peel and some lemon curd flavors starting coming through as well. I particularly like the mineral notes which support the emerging flavors, but For now everything is dominated by the wine's acidity, which will soften over time, at which point there will lots of pleasure to be had from this wine.

  • 2011 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Cuvée Duvault-Blochet 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru

All red fruit with plenty of spice. Very forward and pleasant today, this shows a charming young vines lower intensity to me. Moderate depth.

  • 2010 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Reignots 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru

Decanted approx an hour before serving. Served alongside 2012 Petits Monts. Dark, brooding start showing huge mostly black fruit. Powerful, dense black cherry and berry with Asian five spice throughout. Backward today, this wine kept teasing us with displays of greatness to come.

  • 2012 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Petits Monts 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru

decanted almost one hour before serving. Served alongside 2010 Reignots. Lots of crunchy bright red fruit and Asian five spice giving an unmistakably Vosne feel. On the more elegant vs powerful side, I expect this might pick up weight with more bottle age and will certainly pick up nuance, so think there is upside from here.
