Introduction

This was a gathering of friends from high school that we do every year in various locations. The last few years have been on Little Green Lake, and it couldn't have been at a much better spot. I didn't spend much time with tasting notes...I have to admit it is really hard to write when you're blowing wine out your nose while laughing so much....
Not the most savvy wine drinkers, but I have a good idea what they all like and I try to bring a couple of bottles each of a variety of wines everyone will enjoy. So far so good....no complaints, only a lot of "where can I find that".

Flight 1 (10 Notes)

  • NV Mionetto Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore 89 Points

Italy, Veneto, Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG

    (7/10/2015)

Light gold color. Drank 2+ glasses over 90 minutes. I have to say I was stunned by this today. Dramatically better than the last time I had it. This was poised, balanced and refined, with very clean mineral lines and bright pear fruit with some apple. Very refreshing. This was every bit as good as a number of recent Champagnes. Now I wish I had more. 89+pts.

  • NV Philippe Prié Champagne Tradition Brut 91 Points

    France, Champagne

    (7/11/2015)

Light gold color. Drank 1+ glass over and hour. Shared this with a group of high school friends at our annual gathering at a lake cabin. Toasted a friend who had left us far too soon. I think even Karl would have liked this; the rest of the group sure did. The ambience around the fire on a gorgeous Wisconsin night didn't hurt one bit either. Very bright nose with red apples and fresh yeasty aromas. Crisp and fresh with nice acidity, red apple, citrus, a good dose of minerality, yeast, and a clean finish. A very fine bottle.

  • NV Roederer Estate Brut Anderson Valley 89 Points

USA, California, North Coast, Anderson Valley

    (7/11/2015)

Light gold color. A bit larger bead. Drank 1+ glass over 45 minutes. Fairly typical, not up to the level of the Prie before it, but certainly no slouch either. Showing more apple skins and a bit more sour.

  • 2005 Von Hövel Oberemmeler Hütte Riesling Spätlese 92 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

    (7/10/2015)

Medium gold color. From two 750's. Drank several glasses over several hours. This was just splendid again. I've never been disappointed, and it is always a treat to share these with friends. Refer to my previous notes for details. These have been so consistent over last few years. Gorgeous peach notes, nice texture, oily, petrol, slurpiliciously good on a hot day. I only wish there many more in the cellar. 92+pts.

  • 2012 Domaine Bernard Baudry Chinon Rosé 89 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Chinon

    (7/10/2015)

Light salmon color. Drank 1+ glass over an hour. This showed better than I was expecting. Very refined, still with good strawberry on the nose and palate, some cherry, elegant with a the same wet stone minerality. This seemed more vibrant despite its age today. 88+ to 89pts.

  • 2013 St. Innocent Pinot Noir Œil de Perdrix Zenith Vineyard 88 Points

    USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley

    (7/10/2015)

I didn't take any notes on this, but I can tell you it is consistent with previous vintages. You could spend a lot more and get a lot less. lovely strawberry, just the hint of sweetness, very good. 88+pts.

  • NV Domaine Serene "R" 89 Points

    USA, Oregon

    (7/10/2015)

I didn't really get the opportunity to delved into the subtleties of this today, but it was absolutely tasty, fresh and lovely, with bolder fruit than anything else but offering the elegance that many lack.

  • 2004 Joh. Jos. Prüm Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Auslese 93 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

    (7/11/2015)

Light-medium golden color. PNP, drank 2 glasses over 2 hours. Killer bottle, best of the Riesling grouping. I thought this was really well defined and not overtly sweet. It had a lovely honeyed texture with a nice mix of fruit pineapple, nectarine, apple, white peach, with some spiciness and a bit of fusil showing. Very long.

  • 2013 St. Innocent Pinot Noir Villages Cuvée 89 Points

    USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley

    (7/9/2015)

Medium dark red color. PNP, drank 3oz pours on consecutive nights. This showed more earth than some previous vintages with nice raspberry fruit, some vanillin, lighter spices and light-medium body. Really opened and showed more depth over the 24 hours open. I'll try to revisit this soon.
