Introduction

Our annual getaway for the Fall colors and hiking on the North Shore. My one complaint is we never seem to drink quite as many wines as we intend!

Flight 1 (4 Notes)

  • NV Laurent-Perrier Champagne Brut 89 Points

    France, Champagne

    (9/24/2015)

Pale gold color. Split a 375ml bottle over dinner. This was decidedly mineral driven tonight, lots of citrus on the nose and palate. The palate is sour citrus and this finishes a bit more chalky than ideal for me.

  • 2011 Arterberry Maresh Pinot Noir Winderlea 93 Points

USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills

    (9/24/2015)

Medium red color. PNP, drank several glasses over 3 hours. Wow, this was singing tonight; amazing purity and finesse. Across the board, the 2011 Oregon pinots are really starting to shine so this should come as no surprise from Arterberry Maresh. The nose is captivating with lovely strawberry and red raspberries bolstered by such fine spices and cinnamon. As good as the nose is, the palate is better with the same glorious red berries with hints of currants, pepper. Medium body and such an elegant personality and purity, lifted, with a long finish. There's just a hint of graphite there too. We were both thrilled to drink this tonight and had a very hard time pacing ourselves. This bottle was akin to what I think chablis28 and Dave Dalluge experienced a few months ago. Outstanding.

  • 2000 Les Gartieux de Pichon Lalande 91 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

    (9/25/2015)

Very dark red color, no bricking. Decanted for an hour and drank several glasses over 4 hours. The nose shows dust, dark fruits of cassis and raspberry, tobacco, funky, . The palate is medium full bodied, cassis, black cherry, graphite, funky earthiness, grainy tannins. This took on weight and was just starting to show hints of the strong perfume of previous bottles. Much more like a bottle I had back in 2010.

  • NV Vilmart & Cie Champagne Premier Cru Grand Cellier Brut 92 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru

    (9/26/2015)

Light gold color. Drank several glasses over 3 hours. Aggressive fine bead, citrus pear, almond, and mild yeast. The palate is tasty, pear, apple skin, citrus, clean with good stony minerality, almond paste, balanced a nice finish. Very good 92+pts.
