  • 2000 Château Kirwan 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Ruby, just slight bricking but youthful for its age; nose is aromatic with some floral, red fruit, complex earth, blackberry and currant; palate is full bodied, ripe black fruits, very smooth, integrated tannin, palate is simpler than the nose; finish is medium length. Very nice now but with at least 10-15 years ahead of it. 91-92

  • 2000 Château Pontet-Canet 94 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Fresh aromatic nose, black fruit, minerality, slight smokiness; palate is very fresh, amazingly youthful, black fruit, clean minerality, fades just a tad through the midpalate but otherwise wonderful; finish is medium-long. Still needs five years to hit its peak. 94-95+

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

Earthy, leafy, mulchy nose with cherry, cranberry, some black fruit; palate is full bodied with excellent acidity, fruit starts off red and fades a tad through the midpalate which makes the acid stick out a tad; medium finish with slight shrill acidity. 91-92

  • 1995 Château d'Yquem 93 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

Lovely medium-golden color with just a hint of orange; nose is highly aromatic with saffron, concentrated mandarin oranges, baking spice; palate is full bodied, rich, dense with sweetness and unctuous without being overwhelming, excellent acid to balance the sugar; medium-long finish. This is made in a slightly more unctuous style than classic Yquem and with slightly less complexity than the vey best vintages, but this has excellent balance, great concentration and length, and is a pleasure to drink. I tasted the 96 yquem recently, and compared to that this is a half-step behind only for its acidity and better complexity in the 96. 93-94
