Introduction

We started out with the '96 to warm up the taste buds, afterwards it was '83 the evening out.

Flight 1 (5 Notes)

  • 1996 Clos Fourtet 88 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

Braun hints on the edge. Intens warm aromas of tobaco, earthy tones, vanila, black currant and a hint of leather. The taste has more fruit, as well as more tobaco, dirt and prunes. Overall a nice bouquet and good taste, which loses intensity on the aftertaste. The tannins are a bit itchy, rough and dry on the finish.

  • 1983 Château Marquis d'Alesme 84 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Orange/braun color that show clear signs of age. The aromas are sour feet with fragile hints of fruit, some leather, tobaco and licorise. The taste has more fruit, but it is still weak, some dirt and dirty socks. The aftertaste is fruitless and dry - not tannins but lacking fruit and sweetness. On it's way down.

  • 1983 Château Pontet-Canet 85 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Orange/braun color that shows clear signs of age. Some black currant and cherry are still found on the nose, seem smoked?, with some chemical tones and iodine. The taste is smooth and cold, with leather and tobaco. Some manure makes the overall picture less elegant. The aftertaste is ok. With some air this wine developed downhill and gets a more tertiary feel to it.

  • 1983 Château Rausan-Ségla 90 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Look youthful with regards to it's actual age. Aromas of dirt and wet earth, some fragile tones of berries and even weaker tones of spices, plums and cedar. On the palate the wine is more intens, with fruit-sweetness, spices and ink. Good body and build. Very nice right now. The aftertaste is of fairly good lenght and not overly dry. Nice spiced berries with good strength.

  • 1983 Château Léoville Poyferré 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Very youthful considering the it's age. Aromas of intens raisin, plums, spices and warmth - some associations to Port. The taste has fruity sweetness, good black currant, black berries, cherries - very ripe tastes, but also tobaco, leather and a hint of pepper. Prunes on the aftertaste with spices and herbs. Big structure and elegant long aftertaste. Very nice. Seems so much younger than many '83s.
