eBob dinner to taste through all the wines of Dominus.
Nose has black currants, cedar and balsam. Earth and woodsy palate with firm tannins. Don't think this has sufficient fruit to support the structure at this stage. Still nice for the complexity of flavors. (4+12+16+7=89).

Provocative nose of dark fruits, tar, cedar and herbs. Sexy, smooth fruit on the palate with vibrancy that belies its age. Fills the palate with breadth and depth. Secondary notes of cedar and underbrush offer complexity in the long finish. (4+13+18+9=94).

Gorgeous nose has tar, dark fruits, cedar, herbs with a medicinal note. Soft on the palate with fruit fading. Tannins are sharp and gripping leaving some bitterness in the finish. (4+13+16+7=90).

Bright aromas of black currants, balsam and vanilla. Pure fruits are silky and youthful. Cedar notes offer complexity. Fine tannins. Long finish is full of dark fruits and toasty notes. A young bottle with plenty of development ahead. (4+13+18+8=93).

A singing, seductive and complex nose of currants, cedar, herbs and spices is unbelievable! Classy palate just doesn't quit. Beautiful, pure and focused fruits. Layered with spices, herbs, dirt and tar. Long, complex, powerful, elegant. A wine that has it all and in a style that is akin to 1st growth Bordeaux (4+15+19+9=97).

Classic nose of currants, cedar, balsam and tobacco. Earthy palate has a gritty and grippy mouthfeel. Nice but didn't stand a chance in the 91 / 94 sandwich. (4+13+17+8=92)

Aromatic nose of currants and smoke is so dense it smells 'textured'. Big and brawny. A prodigious amount of fruit and unmistakably California on the palate. Savoury tannins add complexity. But this hasn't developed the secondary notes of the older wines in tonight's vertical. (4+14+18+9=95).

Cedar and balsam on the nose. Currant fruits are clean and polished. Loses some intensity on the midpalate. (4+12+16+8=90).

Gorgeous aromas of black currant, cedar, tobacco are singing on the nose. Gritty tannins provide texture on the palate. Dark currants fill the mouth and feature a minty accent. Herbs and underbrush add complexity. Powerful with a long finish. (4+15+18+9=96).

Gorgeous and complex nose has tar, currants, spice, smoke and underbrush. Powerful in the mouth. Herbs and tar intermingled with the dark fruit. Tannins are still very firm. A baby. (4+14+18+9=95)

Nose has currants, vanilla and herbs. On the palate a lighter styled Dominus that feels shallow and short. The low point in tonight's vertical, but still a good wine on an absolute basis. (4+12+16+6=88).

Nose shows sweeter styled fruit, caramel, herbs and soy. Palate has toasty vanilla with candied fruit. A decidedly sweeter profile than past vintages and more like an Aussie cab than any other Dominus in the vertical. That said, it's still a nice wine, but in a different style. (4+13+16+6=89).

Big, bright and unevolved. Dark fruits and tannin dominate the palate. Stuffed and of high quality.

Big and brawny. Currants, vanilla, creoste. Lots of complexity and depth of fruit. My favorite of the younger Dominus --- a great wine for drinking in 15-20 years.

Nose of blackberries. Big fruits. Tannic. Shows promise - but not up to the standards of 2001 or 2002.

Nose features earth-driven aromas of cedar, tar and balsamic notes. Terrific weight on the palate. Plenty of aged fruit and fine tannins. Long finish full of tar and cedar. Seems that this will drink well for years. (4+12+17+8=92)

Earthy nose also features a distinct vanilla note. Mid palate is full of bright fruit. Vanilla comes back in the finish. Not as complex as the 84 or 86. Shows younger than its 20+ years. (4+12+16+7=89)

Cedar, tobacco, coffee and earthy notes on the aromatic nose. Palate is full of dark fruits made complex with spices, herbs and some vanilla notes. Tannins are still quite firm and work well with the big fruits. Great balance. Elegant and powerful. WOTF. (4+13+18+9=94)

Aromatic nose of earth, cedar and black pepper. Palate seems to be fading. Very woodsy with fruit taking a back seat. (4+12+15+7=88).
