Notes of cherry compote & nutmeg. Medium-bodied. Flavors of cherry, spice, nutmeg and orange peel . Nice acidity. Guessed Sonoma Pinot.

Light color with notes of cinnamon, red berry fruit and spice. Cherry and red fruit on the palate with good underlying acidity. Fruit turns darker as it sits. Balanced, with a lengthy finish. Excellent. Guessed Oregon Pinot.

Notes of spice, plum and dark fruit. The palate follows the bouquet. Simple. Guessed Cab Sauv.

Notes of cherry, rhubarb and red plum- somewhat ripe but not overly or unpleasantly so. There's good acidity on the palate providing lift for the cherry and red fruit. Has just a hint of earthiness too. Finishes well with good length and balance. Excellent. Guessed OR Pinot.

Aromas of red berries, plum and spice with a lighter cherry quality emerging with air. Medium-bodied but not heavy, this shows red fruits, spice and earth on the palate. Seamless across the palate with a lingering finish. 92+ pts.
Drinking well with just a bit of air and will hold for some time- no rush on this.

Aromas of forest floor, tobacco, plum and dark fruit. Medium-bodied with softened tannins and flavors that mirror the bouquet- plum and dark fruit and tobacco- but with a nice beef blood/iron component that I am really enjoying. Easy to identify as Bordeaux. 89-90 pts.
This was meant as a dinner wine, but put into the tasting after the 2002 Le Cadeau was found to be corked. This particular bottle punched well above its class tonight.

This was, without question, the absolute worst flight in the combined histories of our brown bag groups. We could not taste and unveil these fast enough, and having to suffer through these should have built up plenty of good wine karma down the road.
Opens with a foul burnt rubber note- like Pinotage, except in this case I am quite certain the Pinotage would be vastly superior. Once you get past the burnt rubber note, there's an herbal medicinal thing going on. Assuming you have the strength to actually sip this, you find a liquid that is incredibly sour and acidic and not worth swallowing. I ended up guessing that this was a CA Pinot experiment gone wrong.

Aromas of dill and stewed fruit. It's ripe, but stands out in this flight for actually being drinkable. Stewed dark and red fruit on the palate with a good dose of oak too. I'm really not sure what this is, and the group isn't sure either. Guesses ranged from South American Cab to Syrah to Tempranillo. I was in the Cab Sauv camp on this.

Aromas of dill, olive oil and rancid buttered popcorn. The palate follows the bouquet. There's some fruit but it's sour and well hidden by the rancid qualities. I actually guessed Syrah, and couldn't believe my eyes when this was unveiled.
Having had a couple of Benson's wines before, this bottle was obviously flawed.

Aromas of dark fruit and raisin....really raisiny; pruny. Overly ripe, but at least there's fruit. Not much else though. No guess. I wouldn't be surprised if this were Amarone, but even bad Amarones are better than this.

Opens with a chemically/mineral spirits aroma, with quince and white fruit underneath. Heavy texture with flavors of white fruit and honeysuckle. Guessed domestic Rhone blend.

2013 Château Picque Caillou Blanc
France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
Not giving much in terms of the bouquet- generic and nondescript. Some citrus on the palate, but not much else. Picked up a subtle grassy note as we began discussing these, so guessed Sauv Blanc by default.

2012 Château Graville-Lacoste Blanc 90 Points
France, Bordeaux, Graves
Aromas of citrus, minerals and crab apple. Apple and citrus qualities on the palate with bright acidity. Another that had me thinking straight Sauv Blanc.

Varnish and white fruit notes- reminds me of a Kalin that's a bit too old. The palate follows the bouquet. Guessed Kalin Sauv Blanc.
