Intense, seamless, white flowers and lemon, wonderfully energetic and elegant, creamy texture, incredibly fresh and primary for a twenty year old wine, spicy minerality, laser-like acidity, lively mousse, pin-prick bubbles, superb purity, excellent length. Grande finesse, a wine of real beauty. Great future, but supremely delicious right now. Far superior to the bottle tasted in 2010.

The nose develops from flat cola to flat cherry coke. There is sous-bois and softness, but the aromatic richness is not nearly there and the sense of carbon dioxide remains, short. Not bad in its way, but incorrect.

Deep and rich, spicy and balsamic, powerful, velvety, broad shoulders, firm structure, ripe fruit, eucalyptus, real depth and power, opens up beautifully in the glass, perfectly integrated tannins all wrapped in flesh, hint of eucalyptus, excellent finish. A classic beauty, drinking well now, will last for decades.

Classic Lafite, floral and elegant, perfect in itself, all about finesse, elegance and délicatesse, does not lack structure or grip, but the balance and harmony are just so effortless, fragrant and long, relatively masculine tannins but real elegance, precise flavours, complete finish, excellent length.

1995 Château Mouton Rothschild 95 Points

Richer and more exotic than the Lafite, deep and cedary, firm tannic structure, rich and exuberant, very youthful and lively, belies its twenty years of age, powerful and complete, an essence of Cabernet and of Pauillac. Mature but with time in hand.

1995 Taylor (Fladgate) Porto Vinha Velha Vintage Quinta de Vargellas 93 Points

The first vintage of Vinha Velha (80-120 years old) ever produced, a field blend from five plots in the Quinta de Vargellas: Polverínho, Renova do Depósito, Renova do Armazém, Gricha and Vinha Grande, 20.5% ABV. Mature but lively appearance, medium deep, gentle ruby, no browning at the edges; gentle and quite mature nose, warm and cedary, spice and depth, hint of wood, vanilla even, minerals; medium-sweet, velvety texture, rich and plummy fruit, energetic acidity, ripe tannins, relatively slender style, flavours of cedar and crushed red berries, old-vine creaminess; lovely, long finish, with notes of aniseed, eucalyptus and liquorice, no excessive heat. A lovely Port, elegant for a wine from the Douro Superior, excellent but not aspiring to greatness.

1995 Oremus Tokaji Eszencia 100 Points

Immense. Like an extraordinarily rich TBA, black tea and honey, Alpine herbs, massive sweetness balanced by soaring acidity, incredible drive and energy, sweet peach, spices and vanilla, never-ending length. With only 3% ABV it is barely wine, but its sheer power and concentration dwarfs everything else. Will live forever.
