Introduction

Four of us gathered at Oceanaire to do some bubbly and white burgs before scooting on over for a fantastic 2 hour set by the Jayhawks at First Ave. Really nice group of wines tonight.

Flight 1 (5 Notes)

  • 2002 Pol Roger Champagne Vintage Brut 93 Points

    France, Champagne

Light gold color. Drank 2 glasses over 40 minutes. This was rather understated and in a sneaky, wonderful way. It wasn't overpowering or in your face, nor it didn't leave you wanting at all. It walked a line of sophistication and class. This has orange and orange blossom on the nose with citrus, mineral, biscuit and a touch of lime, very fresh. The palate is delightfully light, elegant, orange, pear, citrus, mineral, biscuit, good verve, long finish. Glad I've got more coming.

  • 2009 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Bougros Côte Bouguerots 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

Pale green gold color. Drank 2 glasses over an hour. This felt like you were standing on the seashore, and it just reverberated with briny intensity of the Coutit oysters. Citrus, lemon, grapefruit, hints of green apple, sea shells, saline, rounded texture, fairly full in body, long on the finish. Delicious.

  • 2005 Domaine Roulot Meursault Les Meix Chavaux 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault

Light gold color. Drank 2 glasses over an hour plus. Great nose, smoky, hazelnut, lemon, oak. The palate has toasty oak, matchstick, tangy citrus, powerful, hazelnut, smoke, lingering finish. Very good, maybe the oak was tad more than optimal, but that's nit picking. 91+pts.

  • 2006 Louis Latour Corton-Charlemagne 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

Medium gold color. Splash double decanted; drank 2 glasses over 75 minutes. I was loving this tonight. The nose was a nice mix of lemon, lemon oil, white peach, melon, orange, white flowers, mineral. The palate took on a fair bit of weight and the acid which initially seemed mediocre also become more lively. Medium full on the weight, a melange of citrus flavors with orange and lemon up front, melon, subtle peach and orange peel, tangy, with good minerality and fuses the palate together well. This seemed quite elegant tonight and I loved the way it seemed to build.

  • 2012 Hanzell Chardonnay 91 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Valley

Pale gold color. Drank 1+ glass over 45 minutes. This was leaner with lemon, pineapple, lighter minerality, focused, crisp acidity, grapefruit, medium plus finish. Little to no discernable oak. I liked this alot and it certainly held its own with the burgs. 91+ to 92pts.
